No. 19 Women's Wrestling Produces Three Champions at Spires Open

Leavenworth, Kan., (Jan. 26, 2024)- The No. 19 Missouri Valley College women's wrestling team traveled to Leavenworth, Kan., Friday, for the Spire Open, hosted by St. Mary (Kan.).  Three Vikings advanced to their respective finals, finishing as champions.

 

Sophomore Sage Beltran (Honolulu, Hawaii)-101 pounds:

First Round: Received a bye.

Quarterfinal: Defeated Vianey Hernandez of Quincy (Ill.) in a first period (2:59) pin.

Semifinal: Defeated Sandra Gutierrez of Southeast (Kan.) in a first period (0:44) pin.

Championship Match: Defeated Kimberly Navarette of Doane (Neb.) by injury default.

Beltran won the 101 pound weight class.

 

Sophomore Madeline Santana (San Bernardino, Calif.)-130 pounds:

First Round: Defeated Kristen Crocket of Quincy (Ill.) in a first period (1:34) pin.

Quarterfinal: Defeated Abbie Ahrens of Doane (Neb.) in a 12-7 decision.

Semifinal: Defeated Madelynn Griffin of Ottawa (Kan.) in a 10-0 technical fall.

Championship Match: Defeated Byanca Cook of Avila (Mo.) in a second period (5:28) pin.

Santana won the 130 pound weight class.

 

Junior Elise Falcetti (St. Louis, Mo.)-155 pounds:

First Round: Defeated Ingrid Beltran-Gonzaga of Ottawa (Kan.) in a first period (0:28) pin.

Quarterfinal: Defeated Alexa Etheridge of Friends (Kan.) in a 10-0 technical fall.

Semifinal: Defeated Kallie Sutton of Doane (Neb.) in a first period (0:41) pin.

Championship Match: Defeated Bailee Hawks of Friends (Kan.) in a first period (1:25) pin.

Falcetti won the 155 pound weight class.

 

Senior Willow Barnes (Romulus, Mich.)-136 pounds:

First Round: Defeated Andrea Yates of Southeast (Kan.) in a 10-0 technical fall.

Quarterfinal: Defeated Jasmine Hopkins of Quincy (Ill.) in a 10-0 technical fall.

Semifinal: Lost to Unattached Piper Cadden in a 10-0 technical fall.

Consolation Semifinal: Defeated teammate Aniseta Acosta in a 13-5 decision.

Third Place Match: Lost to No. 14 Bridgette Sotomayor of Doane (Neb.) in a 10-0 technical fall.

Barnes placed fourth at 136 pounds.

 

No. 13 Senior Laura Lincoln (Searcy, Ark.)-116 pounds:

First Round: Received a bye.

First Round: Lost to No. 7 Katherine Heath of Baker (Kan.) in a 10-0 technical fall.

Consolation Second Round: Lost to Zoe Shariq of Baker (Kan.) in a 10-0 technical fall.

 

Freshman Chase Kiel (Kansas City, Mo.)-130 pounds:

First Round: Lost to No. 13 Peyton Hand of Ottawa (Kan.) in a 10-0 technical fall.

Consolation First Round: Received a bye.

Consolation Second Round: Defeated Lauren Tucker of York (Neb.) in a first period (0:56) pin.

Consolation Third Round: Lost to Abbie Ahrens of Doane (Neb.) in a first period pin.

 

Senior Aniseta Acotsa (Sacramento, Calif.)-136 pounds:

First Round: Defeated Rachel Burns of Central Christian (Kan.) in a 10-0 technical fall.

Quarterfinal: Lost to Araya Boday of St. Mary (Kan.) in a 10-0 technical fall.

Consolation Second Round: Defeated Andrea Yates of Southeast (Kan.) in a first period (1:11) pin.

Consolation Third Round: Defeated Siobhan Rogers of Quincy (Ill.) in a 13-2 technical fall.

Consolation Semifinal: Lost to teammate Willow Barnes in a 13-5 decision.

 

No. 18 Freshman Maria Slaughter (Wentzville, Mo.)-143 pounds:

First Round: Received a bye.

Second Round: Defeated Livia Swift of Ottawa (Kan.) in a first period (0:32) pin.

Quarterfinal: Defeated No. 19 Sara Souresjhani of Avila (Mo.) in a first period (0:13) pin.

Semifinal: Lost to Athena Willden of William Jewel (Mo.) in a first period pin.

Consolation Semifinal: Lost to Livia Swift of Ottawa (Kan.) in a first period pin.

 

Sophomore Jericka Renner (Stockton, Mo.)-155 pounds:

First Round: Won by forfeit over Susana Mondragon of Avila (Mo.).

Quarterfinal: Defeated Sidnee Busch of Southeast (Kan.) in a first period (2:08) pin.

Semifinal: Lost to Bailee Hawks of Friends (Kan.) in a 12-2 technical fall.

Consolation Semifinal: Lost to Akaiya Tinsley of Ottawa (Kan.) in a second period pin.

 

Senior Elizabeth Hubbard (Azle, Texas)-155 pounds:

First Round: Lost to Bailee Hawks of Friends (Kan.) in a first period pin.

Consolation First Round: Defeated Kaydence Bonewell of Ottawa (Kan.) in a first period (3:00) pin.

Consolation Second Round: Lost to Alexa Etheridge of Friends (Kan.) in a first period pin.

 

Freshman Tylah Allen (Jonesboro, Ark.)-170 pounds:

First Round: Defeated Elizabeth Ramirez of St. Mary (Kan.) in a first period (2:08) pin.

Quarterfinal: Lost to No. 12 Aime Hernandez Perez of York (Neb.) in a 9-0 decision.

Consolation Second Round: Lost to Hailey Romero of Doane (Neb.) by forfeit.

 

Freshman Chelsea Guthrey (Marshall, Mo.)-220 pounds:

First Round: Lost to Amy Sistek of Southeast (Kan.) in a first period pin.

Second Round: Lost to Hannah Jackson of Ottawa (Kan.) in a 10-0 technical fall.

Third Round: Lost to Kiara Boldridge of Southeast (Iowa) in a 10-0 technical fall.

 

Up next, the Viking women's wrestling team will host its first home dual of the season, welcoming in No. 4 Grand View (Iowa) in the Burns Athletic Complex, Monday at 7 p.m.
