Women's Wrestling Tops No. 19 Baker at National Duals

Cedar Falls, Iowa, (Jan. 5, 2024)- The Missouri Valley College women's wrestling team traveled to Cedar Falls, Iowa, to begin competition at the NWCA National Duals.  The day featured a win over top 20 Baker (Kan.).

 

Vs. No. 7 Campbellsville (Ky.)

101 pounds: No. 19 Sophomore Sage Beltran (Honolulu, Hawaii) lost to No. 15 Riley Banyas in an 11-0 technical fall.  Campbellsville leads, 4-0.

109 pounds:  No. 12 Junior Hailey Holland (San Bernardino, Calif.) defeated Gabrielle Medeiros in a first period (1:44) pin.  Missouri Valley leads, 5-4.

116 pounds: Junior Mystyque Anderson (Kansas City, Mo.) lost to No. 4 Icart Galumette in a first period (1:05) pin. Campbellsville leads, 9-5.

123 pounds: Missouri Valley left the weight class open.  Campbellsville leads, 14-5.

130 pounds: Freshman Chase Kiel (Kansas City, Mo.) lost to Olivia Messerly in a 10-0 technical fall.  Campbellsville leads, 18-5.

136 pounds: Senior Willow Barnes (Romulus, Mich.) lost to No. 10 Gabriella Perez in a second period (4:23) pin.  Campbellsville leads, 23-5.

143 pounds: Missouri Valley left the weight class open.  Campbellsville leads, 28-5.

155 pounds: Junior Elise Falcetti (St. Louis, Mo.) lost to No. 15 Sierra Chaves in an 8-0 decision.  Campbellsville leads, 31-5.

170 pounds: Senior Elizabeth Hubbard (Azle, Texas) lost to No. 4 Kendra Thompson in a 10-0 technical fall.  Campbellsville leads, 35-5.

191 pounds: Senior Kelani Corbett (Wahiawa, Hawaii) defeated Lexiana Garcia in a first period (0:58) pin.

Campbellsville defeated Missouri Valley, 35-10.

 

Vs. No. 19 Baker (Kan.)

101 pounds: No. 19 Beltran won by forfeit as Baker left the weight class open.  Missouri Valley leads, 5-0.

109 pounds: No. 12 Holland defeated Abigail Halstead in a first period (2:46) pin.  Missouri Valley leads, 10-0.

116 pounds: Anderson lost to No. 5 Katherine Heath in a 10-0 technical fall. Missouri Valley leads, 10-4.

123 pounds: Missouri Valley left the weight class open.  Missouri Valley leads, 10-9.

130 pounds: Kiel defeated No. 19 Abbie Jones in a second period (4:32) pin.  Missouri Valley leads, 15-9.

136 pounds: Barnes defeated Belle Hernandez in a first period (0:36) pin.  Missouri Valley leads, 20-9.

143 pounds: No. 13 Freshman Serenity De La Garza (McAllen, Texas) defeated Reagan Wonnell in a first period (0:15) pin.  Missouri Valley leads, 25-9.

155 pounds: Sophomore Jericka Renner (Stockton, Calif.) defeated Emma Grossoehme in a first period (2:28) pin.  Missouri Valley leads, 30-9.

170 pounds: Corbett defeated No. 18 Jaclyn Daley in a first period (1:15) pin.  Missouri Valley leads, 35-9.

191 pounds: Freshman Hollie Hedgpeth (Cameron, Mo.) lost to No. 16 Elisa Robinson in a first period (1:13) pin.

Missouri Valley defeated No. 19 Baker, 35-14.

 

Vs. No. 12 Cumberlands (Ky.)

101 pounds: No. 19 Beltran lost to Angelina Casteneda in a second period (4:26) pin.  Cumberlands leads, 5-0.

109 pounds: No. 12 Holland lost to No. 13 Gracie Elliott in a second period (5:57) pin.  Cumberlands leads, 10-0.

116 pounds: No. 15 Senior Laura Lincoln (Searcy, Ark.) lost to No. 16 Presley Anderson in a 10-0 technical fall.  Cumberlands leads, 14-0.

123 pounds: Anderson lost to Jaine Stephens in a first period (0:27) pin.  Cumberlands leads, 19-0.

130 pounds: Kiel lost to Amy Algaier in a first period (1:27) pin.  Cumberland leads, 24-0.

136 pounds: Barnes defeated Migdalys Ramos in a 5-4 decision.  Cumberlands leads, 25-3.

143 pounds: No. 13 De La Garza defeated Micah Fisher in a second period (4:29) pin.  Cumberlands leads, 25-8.

155 pounds: Falcetti lost to Ariana Pereira in an 11-0 technical fall.  Cumberlands leads, 29-8.

170 pounds: Corbett defeated No. 8 Saiheron Preciado-Meza in a first period (2:51) pin.  Cumberlands leads, 29-13.

191 pounds: Hedgpeth lost to No. 5 Maquoia Bernabe in a first period (0:47) pin.

Cumberlands defeated Missouri Valley 34-13.

 

The team moves to 1-2 in duals on the season.

 

The Vikings will continue competition with two more duals at the NWCA National Duals in Cedar Falls, Iowa, Saturday, beginning with a rematch against No. 7 Campbellsville (Ky.), beginning at 9 a.m.
