Women's Wrestling Moves to No. 14 in Coaches' Poll, Six Ranked Individuals

Marshall, Mo., (Feb. 8, 2024)- The Missouri Valley College women's wrestling team has made a jump up the rankings with the release of the latest NAIA Women's Wrestling Coaches' Top 20 Poll, Thursday.  A season-high six individuals are Nationally ranked.

 

The Viking women's wrestling team jumped up five spots and come in at No. 14 in the latest rankings.  The team competed at both the St. Mary (Kan.) Open and the Grand View (Iowa) Open.  In duals, the Vikings fell to No. 3 Grand View, but earned a 44-5 win over No. 17 St. Mary.

 

Three other programs from the Heart of America Athletic Conference are featured in the top 20.  Grand View is No. 3, William Penn (Iowa) moved up to No. 7 and Baker (Kan.) is tied with Missouri Valley at No. 14.

 

Leading the six individuals Nationally ranked is No. 5 Freshman Serenity De La Garza (McAllen, Texas) at 143 pounds.  The other ranked Vikings include:

No. 14 Sophomore Sage Beltran (Honolulu, Hawaii) at 101 pounds.

No. 11 Junior Hailey Holland (San Bernardino, Calif.) at 109 pounds.

No. 18 Sophomore Madeline Santana (San Bernardino, Calif.) at 130 pounds.

No. 18 Freshman Maria Slaughter (Wentzville, Mo.) at 143 pounds.

No. 11 Senior Brooke-Lynn Rush (St. Joseph, Mo.) at 155 pounds.

 

Next up, the Vikings will compete at the Midland (Neb.) Warrior Open in Fremont, Neb., Saturday.
