Job Opening: Tennis Head Coach

HEAD TENNIS COACH

 

Position Summary

 

Missouri Valley College, with one of the largest athletic departments in the country, has an opening for head tennis coach. Responsibilities include planning, development, and implementation of activities surrounding team practices and contests, budget management, equipment and supplies, fundraising and recruiting, retention, and more. The head coach is accountable for modeling professional demeanor and mentoring student-athletes with an emphasis on the NAIA Champions of Character model. This position is responsible for ensuring that all tennis related activities are aligned with the mission of the college and remain in compliance with Missouri Valley College, Heart of America Conference, and NAIA rules and policies.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Administers and plans all aspects of the tennis program. 

  • Assist in building strong relations between the community and the athletic department.

  • Administers the team budget effectively according to department and college guidelines; complies with policies related to requisitioning and purchasing; monitors team budget making sure not to exceed the allotted budget.

  • Approves and manages all team travel, hotel costs, meal costs, and other expenses associated with the tennis program.

  • Cooperates with the Head and Assistant Athletic Trainers and other college health personnel in the care and prevention of injury and illness. Immediately notifies the ATC staff concerning all injuries/illnesses.

  • Ensures that all student-athletes have completed all required eligibility forms prior to participation.

  • Establishes, regulates, and enforces all team and department regulations regarding personal conduct.

  • Evaluates, selects, recommends purchase, and works actively with the athletic administration to create and maintain inventory of team supplies, equipment and uniforms.

  • Coordinates recruitment of well-qualified student athletes, who will thrive as students and in their sport. 

  • Recruit and retain a minimum roster size of 30 student-athletes, including varsity and varsity reserve team experiences as directed by the administration.

  • Makes recommendations to the Director of Athletics for annual scheduling of varsity/varsity reserve contests.

  • Manages invoices, credit card reconciliations, and all financial and administrative documentation as needed by the supervisor.

  • Mentors student-athletes, encourage compliance with MVC standards, and the Champions of Character mission of the NAIA.

  • Monitors and adheres to Missouri Valley College, Heart of America and NAIA policies and procedures.

  • Prepares correspondence, reports and documents as authorized by supervisor.

  • Recommends the appointment of assistant coaches to the Director of Athletics.

  • Supports the team's adherence, individually and collectively, to the MVC policies for student conduct, both implicit and explicit, and works with the VP of Student Affairs as needed to support these policies.

  • Supports, monitors, and evaluates the academic and athletic performance of tennis student-athletes.

  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited College or University required. 

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university preferred.

  • Relative head coaching experience at a NCAA, NAIA, Junior College institution or professional tennis league equivalent preferred.

  • Working knowledge of NAIA rules and regulations

  • Ability to lead and manage others successfully.

  • Valid Chauffeur's Driver's License.

  • Must be able to work collaboratively and establish and maintain effective relationships with the community, faculty, students, and staff.

  • Demonstrated capacity for integrity, honesty, and principled behavior.

  • Demonstrated commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching, scholarship, service, and administration.

  • Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills.

  • Comfortable with using and managing social media, electronic mail and Hudl. 

  • Enthusiastically supports the mission and values of Missouri Valley College.

  • Exercises sound and timely judgment.

  • Treats each member of the campus community with fairness, dignity and respect.

  • Works in a spirit of cooperation and is responsive to the advice and instruction of the athletic administration.
