Rodeos Teams Both Place Third at Arkansas-Monticello

Monticello, Ark., (Oct. 7, 2024)- The Missouri Valley College rodeo teams continued their fall seasons at the Arkansas-Monticello rodeo in Monticello, Ark., over the weekend.  Both teams placed third in their respective standings, with one event winner in the average.

 

In bareback riding, the men's team was led by Freshman Collin Roland (Fayetteville, Ala.), who placed first in the average with a 149.  Roland was fourth in the first go-round, with a 72, then won the second go-round with a 77.  He earned 150 points.  Senior Drew Lind (Weyauwega, Wisc.) was third in the event average with a 137 to collect 90 points.  Freshman Judd Pope (Garnett, Kan.) was fourth with a 125 in the average to collect 60 points and Junior Hayden Leavell (Ozark, Mo.) was sixth in the average with a 66 to earn 10 points.  Junior Kooper Heimburg (San Tan Valley, Ariz.) won the first go-round with a 78 and finished with 60 points.

 

Also for the men's team, in saddle bronc riding, Huver placed second in the average with a 126 and earned 135 points.  Huver was second in the first go-round with a 71 and third in the second go-round with a 55.  Pope finished second in the second go-round, with a 66, and earned 50 points.  Freshman Ethan Archer (Holem, Wisc.) was third in the second go-round with a 55 to earn 35 points, and Sophomore Walker McAbee (Woodruff, S.C.) was fifth in the second go-round with a 53 to earn 20 points.  In bull riding, Huver won the first go-round with an 83, and finished second in the event standings with the 83 to earn 110 points.  In steer wrestling, Sophomore Carson Ball (Bruner, Mo.) was third in the first go-round with a 6.5 to earn 45 points.

 

On the women's side, Both Freshman Kate Brisbane (Kearney, Mo.) and Sophomore Dally Orman (Blakesburg, Iowa) tied for third in the breakaway roping average, with a 6.4 each.  Brisbane finished second in the second go-round with a 2.9, and earned 85 points, while Orman was fifth in the first go-round with a 3.2, and fourth in the second go-round with a 3.2, earning 80 points.  Sophomore Addi Williams (Harrisburg, Ark.) also finished fourth in the first go-round with a 3.1 and earned 30 points.  Williams followed with a fourth place finish in the first go-round of goat tying, with an 8.5, and earned 30 points. 

 

In the team standings, the Viking cowboys placed third with a total of 630 points.  Northwest Mississippi won with 655 points, and West Alabama was second with 635 points.  The Viking cowgirls were third overall with 165 points.  West Alabama won with 500 points, and Southern Arkansas followed in second with 190 points.

 

Up next, the Viking rodeo teams continue their fall seasons, competing at the Southern Arkansas rodeo in Magnolia, Ark., Thursday through Saturday.  Rodeos begin at 7 p.m., each evening.
