Rodeo Teams Host Annual Viking Stampede Rodeo

Marshall, Mo., (Sept. 23, 2024)- The Missouri Valley College rodeo teams hosted the annual Viking Stampede Rodeo over the weekend at the Saline County Fairgrounds in Marshall, Mo.  The women's team captured first in the standings, with two event winners, while the men's team placed third. 

 

Leading the women's team were a pair of event winners in the average.  Freshman Codie Vaughan (Searcy, Ark.) placed first in the breakaway roping average with a 5.6.  Vaughn finished with a 2.8 in each go-round, winning the second go-round, and totaling 120 points on the weekend.  Also taking first in the average was Freshman Kate Brisbane (Kearney, Mo.) with a 15.9 in goat tying.  Brisbane finished second in both go-rounds with a 7.3 and 8.6.

 

Also for the women's team, Sophomore Dally Orman (Blakesburg, Iowa) placed third in the goat tying average with a 16.5, earning 95 points.  Sophomore Kalyani Das (Las Cruces, N.M.) finished third in the barrel racing average with a 29.85, earning 90 points. 

 

On the men's side, the team had five cowboys finish in the top six of the bareback riding average.  Junior Kooper Heimburg (San Tan Valley, Ariz.) placed second with a 154, two points off first place, to earn 140 points.  Heimburg finished fourth in the first go-round with a 73, then won the second go-round with an 81.  Freshman Collin Roland (Fayetteville, Ala.) was third in the average with a 154, which included second place finishes in both go-rounds with scores of 75 and 78 to earn 130 points.  Junior Bryce Eck (Redfield, Kan.) was fourth with a 145 to earn 75 points.  Also, both Sophomore Jason Wilson (Pownal, Vt.) and Junior Hayden Leavell (Ozark, Mo.) tied for fifth with a 143 in the average.  Leavell earned 45 points and Wilson earned 35 points.

 

In saddle bronc riding, Sophomore Walker McAbee (Woodruff, S.C.) finished with a 133 in the average to place second overall, finishing with 140 points.  Eck placed second in the first go-round with a 67, and was third in the average to earn 90 points.  Both Freshman Treg Huver (Nashville, Mich.) and Freshman Judd Pope (Garnett, Kan.) earned second go-round scores in the event.  Pope was the second go-round with a 71, and earned 60 points, while Huver was third in the go-round with a 68, and earned 40 points.

 

In the team standings, Missouri Valley won the women's title with 370 points.  Southern Arkansas followed in second place with 255 points.  This is the first rodeo title for the women's team since winning the Pearl River (Miss.) rodeo back in March of 2023.  The men's team placed third with 485 points.  West Alabama won with 560 points, and Northwest Mississippi was second with 495 points.
