Men's Lacrosse Falls in Road Game at Clarke
Dubuque, Iowa, (March 23, 2024)- The Missouri Valley College men's lacrosse traveled to Dubuque, Iowa for a Heart of America Athletic Conference game with Clarke (Iowa), Saturday afternoon. The Vikings led early, but fell to the Pride.
The game started with an early shot on goal created by Clarke, but Junior Goalkeeper Jake Lipscomb (Boiling Springs, S.C.) came up with his first save. The two teams traded possession through much of play in the quarter. Lipscomb made four more saves near the midway point of the quarter. Missouri Valley created a quality chance near the five-minute mark, and Junior Jordan Bracamonte (Tucson, Ariz.) scored on his chance, off an assist from Sophomore Carson Willey (Carstairs, Alberta), to put MVC in front, 1-0. Clarke responded over the final four minutes of the first quarter, scoring three goals and moving in front, 3-1.
Play in the second quarter featured the two teams trading possession. Lipscomb made a save with just over one minute played, and Junior Alvaro Atienza (Madrid, Spain) had a shot hit off the post one minute later. The Vikings eventually created another opportunity near the 11-minute mark, and Bracamonte scored again, cutting the deficit to 3-2. After another Lipscomb save moments after the ensuing faceoff, Missouri Valley again worked a chance on goal, and Junior Jayden Simpliciano (Honolulu, Hawaii) tied the contest at 3-3, with a goal midway through the quarter. The Pride again pulled away, scoring three goals over the final six minutes to hold a 6-3 advantage at halftime.
The second half featured five more goals from Clarke in the third quarter, followed by another five goals in the fourth quarter as the team pulled away. The Vikings fell by a final score of 16-3.
Bracamonte led with two goals, and added four ground balls. Simpliciano had one goal and six ground balls and Willey added two assists. Lipscomb made 23 saves in goal. Missouri Valley forced Clarke into 24 turnovers and came up with 25 ground balls.
The loss drops Missouri Valley to 0-4 on the season and 0-2 in the Heart. Clarke improves to 5-3 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
