Men's Golf Opens Fall Season at Mid-States Classic

Newton, Kan., (Sept. 6, 2023)- The Missouri Valley College men's golf team opened its fall season with play at the Mid-States Classic at Sand Creek Station in Newton, Kan. The Vikings finished sixth overall with a pair of top ten individuals.

 

Leading the team was Sophomore Mateo Quiroga (Canelones, Uruguay), who finished sixth in the standings with a three-round score of +2 (218). Quiroga placed eight shots back of first place and shot a -2 (70) in his third round. Following in tenth place was Sophomore Nelius de Jager (Upington, South Africa), with a final score of +4 (220), which included the lowest round of any golfer in the tournament. He shot a -5 (67) in the first round.

 

Sophomore Dominic Hoskin (Witham, England) placed at No. 30 overall with a +18 (234), while Sophomore Jules Garret (Lyon, France) rounded out the team scores at No. 35 with a +26 (242). Freshman Sebastian Liffers (Heitersheim, Germany) placed at No. 37 with a +30 (246). As a team, the Vikings finished sixth overall with a final score of +44 (908). No. 8 Wayland Baptist (Texas) won the tournament with a +5 (869). Up next, the men's golf team plays at the Players Club Invitational at The Players Club Golf Course in Yorktown, Ind., Sept. 11-12.
