Baseball Finishes Weekend Series at Central Methodist

Fayette, Mo., (April 15, 2023)- The Missouri Valley College baseball team was in Fayette, Mo., Saturday evening for a Heart of America Athletic Conference doubleheader with No. 21 Central Methodist (Mo.).  The Vikings fell in the opening game, 7-3, then lost the second game, 11-0.

Central Methodist was playing as the visiting team, and started the game with two runs on two hits in the top of the first inning.  Sophomore Pitcher Christopher Nielsen (Oakleight, Australia) got out of the inning with a strikeout to strand a pair of base runners.  Missouri Valley countered in the bottom of the second, as Sophomore Third Baseman Jumpei Ohashi (Asahikawa, Japan) reached on an error, and Sophomore Designated Hitter Jayden Mah (Nanaimo, British Columbia) knocked out a two-run homer to tie the teams at 2-2.  Nielsen faced the minimum in the third, and the two teams went to the fourth inning tied.  The Eagles used four hits to produce three runs in the fourth to go back on top, 5-2.  The Vikings got one of those runs back in the fifth, which featured a one-out single from Senior Rightfielder Kyle Weber (Marshall, Mo.), who came home on a two-out single from Junior Centerfielder Ivory Daniels (Little Rock, Ark.) to cut the deficit to 5-3.  Central Methodist put together some offense in the sixth, scoring two runs on three hits.  Sophomore Pitcher Koby Linder (Green Castle, Mo.) got out of the inning with a strikeout to strand two runners on-base, then kept CMU scoreless in the top of the seventh.  Weber singled in the bottom of the seventh, but Missouri Valley was unable to rally late, and fell, 7-3.

Weber finished with two hits and one run, while Mah added one hit, one run scored and two RBI's.  Ohashi had one hit and one run scored.  The loss went to Nielsen, who pitched four innings with seven hits, five earned runs and three strikeouts.
