Women's Wrestling Keeps Top Ten Spot, Ten Individuals Nationally Ranked
Marshall, Mo., (Dec. 12, 2024)- The Missouri Valley College women's wrestling team remains in the top ten of the latest NAIA Women's Wrestling Coaches' Top 20 Poll, released Thursday. Ten individuals are ranked in the latest coaches' poll.
The Vikings stayed at No. 9 for the second-straight coaches' poll. Since the previous poll was released last month, the team hosted the MVC Open, and lost a pair of duals to then-No. 1 Grand View (Iowa) and then-No. 6 William Penn (Iowa).
Missouri Valley is one of five teams from the Heart of America Athletic Conference ranked in the coaches' poll. Grand View (Iowa) fell to No. 2, William Penn (Iowa) moved up to No. 5, Baker (Kan.) dropped to No. 13, and Central Methodist (Mo.) jumped into the rankings at No. 18. Road duals are set for Baker, Jan. 22, and at Central Methodist, Feb. 5.
Ten Vikings are ranked in their respective weight classes, led by Senior Kelani Corbett (Wahiawa, Hawaii) who is ranked No. 2 at 207 pounds. Corbett is a former National champion at 191 pounds and three-time NAIA All-American. The other ranked individuals include:
No. 15 Junior Sage Beltran (Honolulu, Hawaii) at 103 pounds.
No. 11 Senior Hailey Holland (San Bernardino, Calif.) at 110 pounds.
No. 17 Freshman Sara Pineda (Perris, Calif.) at 110 pounds.
No. 19 Freshman Ashtyn Sagely (Broken Arrow, Okla.) at 117 pounds.
No. 5 Senior Ashley Whetzal (Virginia Beach, Va.) at 131 pounds.
No. 7 Sophomore Serenity De La Garza (McAllen, Texas) at 138 pounds.
No. 6 Freshman Sevreign Aumua (Grain Valley, Mo.) at 145 pounds.
No. 18 Senior Aniseta Acosta (Sacramento, Calif.) at 160 pounds.
No. 19 Senior Elise Falcetti (St. Louis, Mo.) at 160 pounds.
Up next for the Viking women's wrestling team will compete next month, at the York (Neb.) Open, Jan. 18.
