Women's Wrestler Earns Weekly Heart Award

Marshall, Mo., (Nov. 25, 2024)- A Missouri Valley College women's wrestler has earned a weekly award from the Heart of America Athletic Conference following her performance at the Missouri Valley Open over the weekend.

 

No. 1 Senior Kelani Corbett (Wahiawa, Hawaii) has been named the Heart Women's Wrestler of the Week, after taking first place at 207 pounds at the Missouri Valley Open.  The event is the largest collegiate women's wrestling tournament in the country, hosting programs across all collegiate divisions.  Corbett finished with a 6-0 record, including three wins by technical fall.

 

On the weekend, Corbett defeated Isabeau Shalack of Colorado Mesa, in a 10-0 technical fall, Faith Wooley of Wayland Baptist (Texas), in a 14-4 technical fall, and Hailey Conley of Fort Hays State (Kan.) in a 12-1 technical fall.  In the quarterfinals, Corbett earned a 7-2 decision win over Alivia White of Iowa, followed by a 3-1 decision win over No. 4 Hannah Jackson of Ottawa (Kan.) in the semifinals.  The championship match finished with a 7-0 decision victory over Sara Lake of Lindenwood (Mo.).

 

This is the first weekly award of the season for Corbett, and the fourth of her career.  Corbett won three awards during the 2022-23 season.

 

Up next, the Viking women's wrestling team will travel to Des Moines, Iowa, for a dual against No. 1 Grand View (Iowa), Tuesday at 7 p.m.
