Women's Wrestling Set to Host Missouri Valley Open
Marshall, Mo., (Nov. 21, 2024)- The Missouri Valley College women's wrestling program is set to host the annual Missouri Valley Open, Friday and Saturday inside the Burns Athletic Complex, featuring teams from across all divisions of collegiate women's wrestling.
The Missouri Valley Open is the largest collegiate women's wrestling tournament in the country, and includes more than 50 teams and over 700 women's wrestlers. Teams from across all divisions of women's wrestling, including NCAA, NAIA and JUCO will be competing.
The Missouri Valley women's wrestling team is currently ranked No. 8 in the NAIA Women's Wrestling Coaches' Top 20 Poll, with nine Nationally ranked individuals. Leading the team is No. 1 Senior Kelani Corbett (Wahiawa, Hawaii) at 207 pounds. Corbett is a former National champion at 191 pounds, and a three-time All-American. Three other Vikings are ranked in the top ten of their respective weight classes. That includes No. 9 Junior Sage Beltran (Honolulu, Hawaii) at 103 pounds, No. 5 Senior Ashley Whetzal (Virginia Beach, Va.) at 131 pounds, and No. 7 Sophomore Serenity De La Garza (McAllen, Texas) at 138 pounds.
The Missouri Valley Open takes place inside the Burns Athletic Complex, and starts Friday at 12 p.m. Saturday, wrestling begins at 9 a.m. Tickets can be purchased at the door each day of competition.
