
Women's Wrestlers Compete at 2023 Senior Nationals
Fort Worth, Texas, (Dec. 17, 2023)- The Missouri Valley College women's wrestling team sent student-athletes to compete at the 2023 Senior Nationals in Fort Worth, Texas, over the weekend.
Senior Ashley Whetzal (Virginia Beach, Va.)-57kg:
First Round: Defeated Jaclyn Dehney of Massachusetts Wrestling Association in a second period (4:05) pin.
Second Round: Defeated Carissa Qureshi of Orange County RTC in a first period (0:54) pin.
Quarterfinal: Lost to Amanda Martinez of CARTC/TMWC in a 10-0 technical fall.
Consolation Fourth Round: Lost to Virginia Foard of Wyoming Seminary Wrestling Club in a 10-0 technical fall.
Freshman Serenity De La Garza (McAllen, Texas)-68kg
First Round: Lost to Marilyn Garcia of BTSLA/TMWC in a 13-2 technical fall.
Consolation First Round: Lost to Madison Sandquist of Rise RTC in a first period pin.
Senior Kelani Corbett (Wahiawa, Hawaii)-76kg
First Round: Lost to Love Daley of Beat the Streets New England in an 11-0 technical fall.
Consolation First Round: Defeated Brianna Seixas of Dubuque RTC in a 10-0 technical fall.
Consolation Second Round: Lost to Rose Cassioppi of Iowa Women's Wrestling Club in a first period pin.
Next for the women's wrestling team is the National Duals Tournament in Cedar Falls, Iowa, Jan. 5-6.
