Tennis Teams Both Top Baker to Close Regular Season

Baldwin City, Kan., (April 21, 2024)- The Missouri Valley College men's and women's tennis teams traveled to Baldwin City, Kan., for matches against Baker (Kan.) to close the regular season.  The men's team earned a 7-0 victory, and the women's team won, 5-2, in matches.

 

Men's Results:

Doubles:

No. 1-Senior Caratti (Novara, Italy)/Freshman Sergio Martinez defeated Juan Manuel Avila/River Flaska, 7-6.

No. 2-Sophomore Alecson Deschamps (Blumenau, Brazil)/Freshman Alvaro Ruiz defeated Fabian Martinez/Corvin Christ, 6-1.

No. 3-Freshman Tom Keen/Freshman David Schalgeter (Meerbusch, Germany) defeated Kyler Kosanke/Jack Forrest, 6-2.

 

Singles:

No. 1-Martinez defeated Avila, 6-2, 6-7, 10-5.

No. 2-Sophomore Alexis Diaz (Bordeaux, France) defeated Christ, 6-4, 7-6.

No. 3-Freshman Ruslan Anurev (Novorossiysk, Russia) defeated Flaska, 6-3, 6-1

No. 4-Caratti defeated Martinez, 6-0, 6-0.

No. 5-Deschamps defeated Kosanke, 6-1, 6-0.

No. 6-Freshman Bueso (Barcelona, Spain) defeated Forrest, 6-1, 6-1.

 

Women's Results:

Doubles:

No. 1-Sophomore Claudia Casas (Tarragona, Spain)/Junior Milene Marciniuk (Curitiba, Brazil) lost to Dayna Steadman/Cambrie Frame, 5-7.

No. 2-Freshman Hannah Brown (Marshall, Mo.)/Freshman Laura Moreno lost to Ciarra McWilliams/Clare Langfoss, 4-6.

No. 3-Freshman Deborah Mhizha/Junior Tristan Liebenberg (Hartbeespoort, South Africa) won by default.

 

Singles:

No. 1-Brown lost to Steadman, 3-6, 3-6.

No. 2-Marciniuk defeated Frame, 6-3, 6-1.

No. 3-Casas defeated McWilliams, 6-1, 6-0..

No. 4-Moreno defeated Langfoss, 5-7, 6-4, 10-8.

No. 5-Mhizha defeated Jordan Grabast, 6-0, 6-0

No. 6-Liebenberg won by forfeit.

 

The win moves the men's team to 9-5, while the women's team improves to 6-7.

 

Up next, the Viking tennis teams will play in the conference tournament, this week in St. Louis, Mo.
