No. 23 Women's Soccer Plays Clarke to a Tie on the Road

Dubuque, Iowa, (Sept. 21, 2024)- The Nationally ranked Missouri Valley College soccer teams traveled to Dubuque, Iowa, for a Saturday afternoon Heart of America Athletic Conference doubleheader against Clarke (Iowa).  The No. 23 women's team posted a shutout in a 0-0 tie.

Play in the women's game started with Missouri Valley taking most of the possession.  The first shot on goal came just over three minutes into play, as the attempt from Senior Forward Ashley Arribas (Lake Forest, Calif.) was saved.  Less than nine-minutes later, Freshman Midfielder Fabiana Vazques (Isla Margarita, Venezuela) put a shot on goal, followed by an attempt from Junior Midfielder Madi Hudson (Sandbach, England), but both shots were saved by the Clarke keeper.  The Vikings kept CU from building up pressure through much of the half.  Junior Midfielder Judit Ferre (Barcelona, Spain) had a shot saved near the 29-minute mark to keep the game scoreless.  Seven minutes later, Junior Forward Silvia Maldonado (Madrid, Spain) tried to break into the scoring column, but her shot was also saved.  The Pride produced one shot on goal in the half, with less than five minutes remaining, and Sophomore Goalkeeper Marina Barbara Bujalance (Cornella Llobregat, Spain) came up with her initial save of the game to help send the teams into halftime tied at 0-0.

The two teams traded possession at the start of the second half, and Junior Midfielder Carla Carmon (Barcelona, Spain) got off the first shot on goal for either team, with just over six minutes played, which was saved.  Barbara Bujalance came up with another save, near the 65-minute mark.  Both teams struggled to create chances over next 20-minutes of play.  Two late attempts came, one from each team, to try and break the tie.  Senior Forward Miriam Aldabo Alguero (Mequinenza, Spain) had a shot saved with just over six minutes to play, while Barbara Bujalance needed to make one more save less than one minute later.  The game eventually came to an end, with the score at 0-0.

Barbara Bujalance came up with three saves in the game, and recorded the third shutout of the season for the Vikings.  The team led 13-7 in total shots, putting seven shots on goal, and held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.

Missouri Valley moves to 5-3-1 overall and 2-0-1 in the Heart.  Clarke sits at 5-1-3 on the season and 2-0-1 in the conference.
