The game started with an early chance on goal created by Columbia, with nearly nine minutes played, which was saved by Sophomore Goalkeeper Marina Barbara Bujalance (Cornella Llobregat, Spain). The two teams traded possession over a long stretch of play, and the next quality opportunity was created by the Vikings. Ten minutes later, MVC had another opportunity on goal, as a shot from Senior Forward Miriam Aldabo Alguero (Mequinenza, Spain) was saved. Columbia countered quickly and tested Barbara Bujalance once again, but another save was made. The Cougars came up with two more shots on goal, near the 35-minute mark, and Barbara Bujalance maintained the shutout saving both attempts. Columbia came close to taking a lead, as a shot hit off the MVC crossbar with just over three minutes to play before the break. Missouri Valley tried to grab a lead before halftime, as Aldabo Alguero got off a shot that required a save, and the teams went into the break scoreless.
Play after the restart featured the two teams trading possession. Columbia created the first shot on goal, with just over seven minutes played, which was saved by Barbara Bujalance. Missouri Valley held the better of possession over the next several minutes, and tested the CC keeper on multiple occasions. Junior Midfielder Judit Ferre (Barcelona, Spain) and Junior Midfielder Madi Hudson (Sandbach, England) both had shots on goal near the 56-minute mark, but the attempts were saved. Ferre added another shot on goal with nearly 20-minutes off the clock in the half, but again the Columbia keeper kept the game scoreless. Five minutes later, the Cougars broke the tie, and scored to go in front, 1-0. Moments after the restart, a red card was shown, and Missouri Valley had to play the remaining 20 minutes down one player. Barbara Bujalance made one more save late in the game, and Sophomore Defender Marcela Ferreiro (Galicia, Spain) tried to even the score line with a shot on goal in the final six minutes.
