No. 13 Women's Soccer Drops Home Game to Hastings

Marshall, Mo., (Aug. 26, 2023)- The No. 13 Missouri Valley College women's soccer team hosted Hastings (Neb.) inside Volney C. Ashford Stadium, Saturday.  The Vikings had an early chance to take the lead, but fell by a final score of 3-0.

Missouri Valley held the better of possession in the opening minutes of the game, and eventually earned a penalty kick with less than eight-minutes gone off the clock.  However, the shot from Sophomore Defender Marta Carrasco Mesa (Seville, Spain) was saved by the Hastings keeper to keep the teams scoreless.  Freshman Goalkeeper Marina Barabara (Cornella Llobregat, Spain) was called on for her first save less than two minutes later.  The two teams traded possession over the next stretch of play.  The Vikings followed with the next quality chance, as Senior Midfielder Miluska Guevara (Panama City, Panama) put a shot on-goal, but her attempt was saved with just over 26-minutes played.  The Broncos answered back with a chance of their own, but Barbara made another save in the final 10-minutes of play.  Both teams struggled to create chances in the closing minutes of the half, and went into the break scoreless.

Minutes after the restart of the game to begin the second half, Hastings scored to grab a 1-0 advantage.  The Broncos extended their advantage just past the 50-minute mark, to make it a 2-0 score.  The Vikings were unable to create many chances throughout the rest of the contest, and Hastings tacked on one more goal late in the game.  Missouri Valley fell by a 3-0 score.

Barbara made three saves in goal.  Missouri Valley created the only two corner kicks of the contest, and finished with two shots on goal.

The loss drops Missouri Valley to 0-2-1 on the season, while Hastings improves to 1-0.

Up next, the Vikings host No. 12 Columbia (Mo.), Tuesday at 5 p.m., inside Volney C. Ashford Stadium.
