Softball Plays Sunday Doubleheader at Park
Parkville, Mo., (April 6, 2025)- The Missouri Valley College softball team played a Heart of America Athletic Conference doubleheader in Parkville, Mo., Sunday afternoon against Park (Mo.). Designated as the home team for the doubleheader, the Vikings fell in both games.
The opening game started with Junior Pitcher Kyleigh Villarreal (Fenton, Mo.) working around a leadoff single in the top of the first inning to strand the runner on-base. Missouri Valley started the bottom of the first inning with a single from Senior Rightfielder Audrey Short (St. Joseph, Ill.), while Freshman Second Baseman Allison Loucas (Twin lakes, Wisc.) earned a walk. However, Short was caught stealing and a double-play ended the early threat for the Vikings. Park tried to start a two-out rally, using a single and a walk to put two runners on-base, but Villarreal got out of the jam to keep the game scoreless. Missouri Valley countered with a single from Junior Leftfielder Taya Brickner (Fort Collins, Colo.) and a walk by Freshman Third Baseman Jordan Pasbrig (Moberly, Mo.), both with two outs, but the pair were left stranded. The Pirates produced from the plate in the top of the third, using two hits and one MVC error to score one run and move in front, 1-0. Park threatened again in the top of the fourth, loading the bases with one out. However, Loucas threw out the runner at third trying to score on an infield grounder, and Villarreal ended the threat on a fly-out to Brickner to keep it a 1-0 score. Park added to its lead in the fifth inning, scoring three runs on four hits to increase the team's advantage to 4-0. The Vikings had singles from Short in the sixth inning, then Brickner in the seventh inning, but could not produce a rally, falling, 4-0.
Short and Brickner had two hits apiece, while Senior Designated Player Brittney Slocum (Clovis, Calif.) and Junior Centerfielder Jesykah Foster (Garden City, Kan.) added one hit each. Villarreal pitched four innings, giving up five hits and no earned runs, with one strikeout.
Missouri Valley was led in the second game by Short who came up with two hits, while Loucas finished with one hit and one RBI. Foster added one hit. Freshman Pitcher Keira Carvalho pitched three relief innings, giving up three hits and one earned run with one strikeout. The Vikings fell by a final score of 13-1.
Missouri Valley drops to 7-29 overall and 0-12 in the Heart. Park improves to 21-9 on the season and 9-3 in the conference.
