Men's Wrestling Produces Two All-Americans, Top 15 Finish at National Championship

Park City, Kan., (March 7, 2025)- The Missouri Valley College men's wrestling finished competition at the 2025 NAIA Men's Wrestling National Championship in Park City, Kan., Saturday.  Two Vikings earned All-American status, and the team placed in the top 15 overall.

 

No. 7 Junior Francis Morrissey (Warner Robins, Ga.)-174 pounds:

First Round: Defeated Jordan Lomeli of Oklahoma City in a first period (0:59) pin

Second Round: Defeated No. 10 Dylan Preston of Cumberlands (Ky.) in a 4-2 decision.

Quarterfinal: Defeated No. 2 Tre Morrisette of Life (Ga.) in an 8-6 decision.

Semifinal: Lost to No. 3 Kris Ketchum of St. Thomas (Fla.) in an 8-7 decision.

Consolation Semifinal: Lost to No. 9 Daniil Gorshkov of Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) in a 5-3 decision.

Fifth Place Match: Lost to No. 2 Tre Morrisette of Life (Ga.) by medical forfeit

Morrissey placed sixth at 174 pounds and earned All-American status, becoming a two-time All-American.

 

No. 7  Senior Elijah Hynes (Broken Arrow, Okla.)-197 pounds:

First Round: Defeated Tyler Rowland of Cumberland (Tenn.) in a 5-4 decision.

Second Round: Lost to No. 10 Austin Vanek of Montana State-Northern in a 17-6 major decision.

Consolation Second Round: Defeated John Bray of Wayland Baptist (Texas) in a second period (3:55) pin.

Consolation Third Round: Defeated No. 15 Trillyon Fils-Aime of Southeastern (Fla.) in a 5-1 decision.

Consolation Fourth Round: Defeated No. 4 Ryker Blackburn of St. Mary (Kan.) in an 11-5 decision.

Consolation Fifth Round: Lost to No. 8 Asher Ruchti of Southern Oregon in an 18-1 technical fall.

Seventh Place Match: Defeated Omari Smith of Oklahoma City in a 3-2 tiebreaker decision.

Hynes placed seventh at 197 pounds and earned All-American status, becoming a three-time All-American.

 

No. 8 Sophomore Haden Hernandez (Huntington Beach, Fla.)-133 pounds:

First Round: Defeated Kolby Encinas of Oklahoma Wesleyan in a 12-4 major decision.

Second Round: Defeated No. 9 Matthew Terrence of Doane (Neb.) in a third period (6:56) pin.

Quarterfinal: Lost to No. 1 Dominic Chavez of Texas Wesleyan in a 15-2 major decision.

 

Sophomore Robert Albert (Cape Coral, Fla.)-125 pounds:

First Round: Lost to No. 5 Angel Banda of Reinhardt (Ga.) in a 17-2 technical fall.

Consolation First Round: Received a bye.

Consolation Second Round: Lost to No. 6 Leland Camp of Reinhardt (Ga.) in a 13-6 decision.

 

Senior Donavan Parn (Brookfield, Mo.)-141 pounds:

First Round: Lost to No. 11 Adam Stanley of Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) in a first period (1:18) pin.

Consolation First Round: Lost to Nick Moore of Campbellsville (Ky.) in a third period (6:36) pin.

 

No. 12 Sophomore Kristofer Arrey (Riverside, Calif.)-149 pounds:

First Round: Defeated David Pierson of St. Thomas (Fla.) in a 4-3 decision.

Second Round: Lost to No. 5 Victor Guzman of Cumberland (Tenn.) in an 18-2 technical fall.

Consolation Second Round: Lost to Devin Griffin of Reinhardt (Ga.) in a 4-1 decision.

 

Freshman Brayden Shelton (Centralia, Mo.)-157 pounds:

First Round: Defeated No. 2 Aaron Gandara of Southern Oregon in a first period (2:01) pin.

Second Round: Lost to No. 15 Logan Hancey of Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) in a 9-5 decision.

Consolation Second Round: Defeated No. 16 Aushaud Evans of Reinhardt (Ga.) in a 5-2 sudden-victory decision.

Consolation Third Round: Lost to No. 7 Steven Villalobos of Life (Ga.) in a 21-2 technical fall.

 

Senior Brenden Parks (Crystal Lake, Ill.)-165 pounds:

First Round: Defeated No. 12 Weston Melvin of Cumberlands (Ky.) in a 4-3 decision

Second Round: Lost to No. 5 Anthony Federico of Southeastern (Fla.) in a 10-4 decision.

Consolation Second Round: Defeated Blaine Christo of Morningside (Iowa) in a 9-0 major decision.

Consolation Third Round: Lost to No. 13 Travis Waldner of Montana State-Northern in a 9-2 decision.

 

Junior Randy Gonzalez (Lakewood, Calif.)-285 pounds:

First Round: Lost to No. 9 Jakob Jerabek of Morningside (Iowa) in a 6-0 decision.

Consolation First Round: Received a bye.

Consolation Second Round: Lost to No. 10 Austin Silva of Cumberlands (Ky.) in a 4-1 decision.

 

The Vikings finished at No. 15 in the team standings with 31.5 points.
