No. 17 Men's Wrestling With Upset Victories at NWCA National Duals

Cedar Rapids, Iowa, (Jan. 10, 2025)- The No. 17 Missouri Valley College men's wrestling team opened competition at the NWCA National Duals in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Friday.  The Vikings picked up victories over No. 4 Cumberlands (Ky.) and No. 13 Corban (Ore.), advancing to the consolation semifinals.

Vs. No. 7 Campbellsville (Ky.)

125 pounds: No. 24 Sophomore Robert Albert (Cape Coral, Fla.) defeated Amari Harden in a first period (2:18) pin.  Missouri Valley leads, 6-0.

133 pounds: No. 17 Sophomore Haden Hernandez (Huntington Beach, Calif.) defeated Wyatt Hinton in a 6-0 decision.  Missouri Valley leads, 9-0.

141 pounds: No. 18 Senior Donavan Parn (Brookfield, Mo.) lost to No. 11 Nick Moore in a first period (2:00) pin.  Missouri Valley leads, 9-6.

149 pounds: Sophomore Kristofer Arrey (Riverside, Calif.) lost to No. 2 Nik Yancey in a 19-4 technical fall.  Campbellsville leads, 11-9

157 pounds: Freshman Rich Hart (Perkins, Okla.) lost to Tyler Muldrew in a 15-0 technical fall.  Campbellsville leads, 16-9.

165 pounds: No. 18 Senior Dayton Hill (Broken Arrow, Okla.) lost to No. 10 Jasitin Kubwimana in a 7-4 sudden-victory decision.  Campbellsville leads, 19-9.

174 pounds: No. 17 Junior Francis Morrissey (Warner Robins, Ga.) defeated No. 5 Shadrick Slone in a 17-13 decision.  Campbellsville leads, 19-12.

184 pounds: Senior Drake Tipton (Grain Valley, Mo.) lost to No. 9 Brice Parks in a 17-2 technical fall.  Campbellsville leads, 24-12.

197 pounds: No. 2 Junior Elijah Hynes (Broken Arrow, Okla.) defeated Joel Hatchett in a third period (6:36) pin.  Campbellsville leads, 24-18.

285 pounds: Junior Randy Gonzalez (Lakewood, Calif.) lost to No. 7 Gabe Craig in a 13-2 major decision.

Campbellsville defeated Missouri Valley, 28-18.

Vs. No. 13 Corban (Ore.)

125 pounds: No. 24 Albert defeated Brayden Boyd in a 7-3 decision.  Missouri Valley leads, 3-0

133 pounds: No. 17 Hernandez defeated Blake Runion in a 5-3 decision.  Missouri Valley leads, 6-0.

141 pounds: No. 18 Parn defeated Bo Davis in a 4-1 decision.  Missouri Valley leads, 9-0.

149 pounds: Senior Bryson Anderson (Orting, Wash.) lost to JR Downing in a second period (4:20) pin.  Missouri Valley leads, 9-6.

157 pounds: Junior Makoa Goeas (Kahalu'u, Hawaii) lost to No. 3 David Rubio in a 26-10 technical fall.  Corban leads, 11-9.

165 pounds: Senior Brenden Parks (Crystal Lake, Ill.) defeated Armando Nicacio in a third period (6:43) pin.  Missouri Valley leads, 15-11.

174 pounds: No. 17 Morrissey defeated No. 10 Tyson Stover in a 20-4 technical fall.  Missouri Valley leads, 20-11.

184 pounds: Tipton lost to No. 11 Isaiah Twait in a 6-0 decision.  Missouri Valley leads, 20-14.

197 pounds: No. 2 Hynes defeated No. 14 Hunter James in a 7-2 decision.  Missouri Valley leads, 23-14.

285 pounds: Gonzalez defeated No. 10 Antonio Garcia in a 4-1 sudden-victory decision.

Missouri Valley defeated Corban, 26-14.

Vs. No. 4 Cumberlands (Ky.)

125 pounds: No. 24 Albert lost to No. 12 Matteo Vargo in a 6-5 decision.  Cumberlands leads, 3-0.

133 pounds: No. 17 Hernandez lost to No. 7 Chandlar Akins in a 6-2 decision.  Cumberlands leads, 6-0.

141 pounds: No. 18 Parn defeated Eli Peyton in a 12-4 major decision.  Cumberlands leads, 6-4.

149 pounds: Arrey defeated No. 8 Ty Lehman in a 2-1 decision.  Missouri Valley leads, 7-6.

157 pounds: Junior Olson Anderson (Orting, Wash.) lost to Marc Le Gaspe in a first period (2:40) pin.  Cumberlands leads, 12-7.

165 pounds: Parks defeated Weston Melvin in a second period (4:37) pin.  Missouri Valley leads, 13-12.

174 pounds: No. 17 Morrissey defeated No. 22 Sherman Dixon in a 15-12 major decision.  Missouri Valley leads, 17-12.

184 pounds: Tipton lost to TJ Huber in a 2-0 decision.  Missouri Valley leads, 17-15.

197 pounds: No. 2 Hynes defeated Jovon Howe in a first period (2:41) pin.  Missouri Valley leads, 23-15.

285 pounds: Gonzalez defeated Wylie Dunn in a 7-1 decision.

Missouri Valley defeated Cumberlands, 26-15.

Missouri Valley improves to 8-2 in duals on the season.

The team continues competition at the NWCA National Duals, Saturday.  Missouri Valley opens the day with a dual against No. 11 Providence (Mont.), in the consolation semifinal at 9 a.m., in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
