
Men's Wrestling Finishes Third at Missouri Valley Invitational, Two Individual Champions
Marshall, Mo. (January 20, 2024)- The No. 14 Missouri Valley College men's wrestling team hosted one of the largest collegiate men's wrestling tournaments in the country with the Missouri Valley Invitational. The event brings in nearly 50 programs, with close to 400 individuals. Five Vikings advanced to the medal rounds, led by a pair of individual champions and Most Outstanding Wrestler Senior Chase Zollmann (Poway, Calif.).
No. 7 Senior Chase Zollmann (Poway, Calif.)-149 pounds:
First Round: Defeated Austin Zaring of Friends (Kan.) in a first period (1:59) pin.
Second Round: Defeated Chris Sperin of Midway (Ky.) in a second period (2:14) pin.
Third Round: Defeated No. 23 Jalen Vladic of Providence (Mont.) in a 16-1 technical fall.
Quarterfinal: Defeated Seth Johnson of Marian (Ind.) in a 17-2 technical fall.
Semifinal: Defeated Cole Ferguson of Grand View (Iowa) in a 4-0 decision.
Championship Match: Defeated No. 2 Jace Luchau Cumberlands (Ky.) in a 2-1 decision.
Zollman captured the 149 pound championship. Zollman was also named the Jon White Most Outstanding Wrestler.

"The guys wrestled really well this weekend," said Men's Wrestling Head Coach Pat Giangrosso. " Chase Zollmann won the 149 pound weight class and earned the Most Outstanding Wrestler award. Josh Isaac also won the 285 pound weight class. We also had three other placers with Donavan Parn placing fourth at 141 pounds, Elijah Hynes taking fourth at 197 pounds and Brenden Parks placing fifth at 174 pounds. The team finished third in what was a loaded tournament. We are wrestling well right now, and it's time to get back to work and build off this competition moving into the rest of the season. Next up is a home dual against William Penn, Thursday."
As a team, the Vikings finished third in the standings, with 124.5 points. No. 2 Grand View (Iowa) won the team title with 192 points, followed by No. 1 Life (Ga.) in second with 157 points. No. 3 Menlo (Calif.) was fourth with 122.5 points and No. 7 Cumberlands (Ky.) finished out the top five with 119.5 points.
Missouri Valley produced its first individual champions since Elias Vaoifi won the 165 pound weight class at the 2019 Missouri Valley Invitational, and the team had its highest finish since capturing the team title in 2018.
