Men's Wrestling Opens Season at Dan Harris Open

Marshall, Mo., (Nov. 4, 2023)- The Missouri Valley College men's wrestling team opened its season at the Dan Harris Open, hosted by Baker (Kan.) in Baldwin City, Kan., Sunday.  Two Vikings advanced to the placing rounds to lead the team.

 

Junior Brenden Parks (Elburn, Ill.)-174 pounds:

First Round: Received a bye.

Quarterfinal: Defeated Terek White of Neosho County (Kan.) in a first period (0:46) pin.

Semifinal: Lost to Garrett Davis of Labette (Kan.) in a 19-8 major decision.

Consolation Semifinal: Defeated Unattached Ethan Jackson in a 17-0 technical fall.

Third Place Match: Defeated Riley Courtney of Ouachita Baptist (Ark.) in a 13-10 decision.

Parks placed third at 174 pounds.

 

Freshman Jayden Joseph (Tuscaloosa, Ala.)-285 pounds:

First Round: Lost to RJ Hild of Ouachita Baptist (Ark.) in a third period pin.

Consolation First Round: Received a bye.

Consolation Second Round: Defeated teammate Christpher York in a 10-6 decision.

Consolation Third Round: Defeated Nathan Agudzi-Addo of Barton in a 13-3 major decision.

Consolation Semifinal: Defeated Adrian Elsen of Labette (Kan.) in a third period (5:42) pin.

Third Place Match: Lost to Rodney Trotter of Labette (Kan.) in a 22-6 technical fall.

Joseph placed fourth at 285 pounds.

 

Sophomore Makoa Goeas (Kaneohe, Hawaii)-157 pounds:

First Round: Received a bye

Second Round: Lost to Chad Herbert of Labette (Kan.) in a 5-3 decision.

Consolation Second Round: Received a bye.

Consolation Third Round: Lost to Nakkos Benton of Baker (Kan.) in a second period pin.

 

Senior Dylan Washburn (Suffield, Ct.)-157 pounds:

First Round: Received a bye.

Second Round: Defeated Sam Cordova of Ouachita Baptist (Ark.) in a 10-9 decision.

Quarterfinal: Defeated Unattached Landen Lopez in a second period (3:27) pin.

Semifinal: Lost to Unattached Kendall Frank in a 6-2 decision.

Consolation Semifinal: Losts to Jakob Stovall of Baker (Kan.) by injury default.

 

Junior Shane Duckworth (Grain Valley, Mo.)-184 pounds:

First Round: Received a bye.

Quarterfinal: Lost to Brett Bober of Baker (Kan.) in an 18-0 technical fall.

Consolation Second Round: Defeated Unattached Sam Clevenger in a 17-5 major decision.

Consolation Third Round: Defeated Daxson Axelson of Neosho County (Kan.) in a 13-7 decision.

Consolation Semifinal: Lost to Roman Bushek of Baker (Kan.) in a 16-8 major decision.

 

Sophomore Emmanuel Ayi-Bonte (Woodbridge, Va.)-197 pounds:

Quarterfinal: Lost to Matthew Marcum of Labette (Kan.) in a first period (3:00) pin.

Consolation First Round: Defeated Edgar Duarte Quiroz of Barton in a second period (3:42) pin.

Consolation Semifinal: Lost to Brooks Schrimsher of Ouachita Baptist (Ark.) in a 16-6 major decision.

 

Sophomore Christopher York (Kansas City, Mo.)-285 pounds:

First Round: Received a bye.

Quarterfinal: Lost to Don Paul of Ouachita Baptist (Ark.) in an 11-0 major decision.

Consolation Second Round: Lost to teammate Jayden Joseph in a 10-6 decision.

 

Up next, the Viking men's wrestling team will compete at the Grand View (Iowa) Open, Saturday beginning at 9 a.m., in Des Moines, Iowa.
