Tennis Teams Host MVC Fall Invitational

Marshall, Mo., (Sept. 12, 2023)- The Missouri Valley College men's and women's tennis teams hosted the MVC Fall Invitational over the weekend.  The teams produced finalists in both singles and doubles play.

 

Men's Results:

Senior Jacopo Sottocornola (Ancona, Italy) won the men's singles 1st draw over teammate Freshman Sergio Martinez, 6-3, 2-0, retired.

 

Freshman Bogdan Zakharov won the men's singles 2nd draw over Enzo Naveda of Grand View (Iowa), 6-0, 6-1.

 

Sottocornola/Senior Francesco Caratti (Novara, Italy) won the men's doubles over Igor Theodorakopoulos/Dylan Ramsey, 6-3.

 

Women's Results:

Sophomore Querlat Carbo (Barcelona, Spain) lost the women's singles 1st draw finals to Melanie Ortega of Grand View (Iowa), 2-6, 6-3. 2-6.

 

Sophomore Claudia Casas (Tarragona, Spain) won the women's 2nd draw singles over teammate Sophomore Annais Gerard (Montpellier, France), 6-2, 6-4.

 

Carbo/Casas lost the women's doubles final to Ortega/Kanishka Gowthaman of Grand View (Iowa), 4-6.

 

Up next, the Viking women's tennis team hosts Truman State (Mo.) in matches, Tuesday at 4 p.m., at Indian Foothills Park.  Both teams will be in action, Saturday, hosting William Jewell (Mo.) in matches at 12:30 p.m., at Indian Foothills Park.
