
Rodeo Teams Finish Fall Season at Murray State
Murray, Ky., (Nov. 17, 2024)- The Missouri Valley College men's and women's rodeo teams competed at the Murray State (Ky.) rodeo in Murray, Ky., over the weekend. The men's rodeo team finished first overall, with four event average winners. The women's team finished seventh.
The men's rodeo team had four of the top competitors in the bareback riding average. Leading the team was Junior Kooper Heimburg (San Tan Valley, Ariz.) who finished first in the average with a 165. Heimburg was second in the first go-round with a 79, and won the second go-round with an 86. He earned 170 points. Sophomore Jason Wilson (Pownal, Vt.) was second in the average with a 162, after winning the first go-round with an 83, and taking second in the second go-round with a 79. Wilson earned 155 points. Freshman Collin Roland (Fayetteville, Ala.) was fourth in the average with a 146 and earned 75 points, and Junior Bryce Eck (Redfield, Kan.) was fifth with a 140 in the average and earned 65 points.
Also for the men's team, Eck finished first in the saddle bronc riding average with a 148. Eck won the first go-round with a 76, and was second in the second go-round with a 148. He earned 170 points. In steer wrestling, Sophomore Carson Ball (Bruner, Mo.) was first in the average with an 8.9. Ball won the second go-round with a 3.6 and earned 120 points. Also, Junior Kashton Mathis (Monona, Iowa) was first in the bull riding average with a 163. Mathis was second in the first go-round with an 83, and won the second go-round with an 80. He earned 170 points.
Other point scores for the men's team included Ball who placed second in the calf roping average with a 20.2. Ball was second in the first go-round with a 10.7 and won the second go-round with a 9.5 to earn 155 points. Freshman Judd Pope (Garnett, Kan.) with a 72 to place fourth in the first go-round of bareback and earn 25 points, and Senior Drew Lind (Weyauwega, Wisc.) with a 70 in the first go-round of bareback riding to place sixth and earn 10 points. In saddle bronc riding, Pope was third in the second go-round with a 69 to earn 40 points and Freshman Ethan Archer (Holmen, Wisc.) placed fourth in the second go-round to earn 30 points.
Leading the women's team was Sophomore Addi Williams (Harrisburg, Ark.), who placed second in the breakaway roping average with a 5.4. Williams was third in the first go-round with a 2.6, and second in the second go-round with a 2.8 to earn 135 points.
The men's team finished with a total of 710 points to place first overall. West Alabama followed with 435 points. The women's team placed seventh with 135 points. West Alabama won the rodeo with 325 points.
