Rodeo Teams Produce Two Event Winners, Place Second Overall at Southern Arkansas
Magnolia, Ark., (Oct. 13, 2024)- The Missouri Valley College men's and women's rodeo teams competed over the weekend at the Southern Arkansas rodeo in Magnolia, Ark. Both teams finished second in their respective standings with two event winners in the average.
In bareback riding, the men's team finished with the top six cowboys in the average. Junior Bryce Eck (Redfield, Kan.) was first overall with a 165 in the average. Eck won both go-rounds with rides of 84 and 81, and finished with a total of 180 points. Taking second in the average was Sophomore Jason Wilson (Pownal, Vt.), with a 158. Wilson was second in the first go-round with an 82, and fourth in the second go-round with a 76, finishing with 130 points. Third in the average was Junior Kooper Heimburg (San Tan Valley, Ariz.) with a 152, collecting 90 points. Freshman Collin Roland (Fayetteville, Ala.) was fourth in the average with a 149, collecting 80 points, Junior Hayden Leavell (Ozark, Mo.) was fifth with a 147 in the average, collecting 50 points. Senior Drew Lind (Weyauwega, Wisc.) was sixth with a 145 in the average to collect 20 points. Also, Junior Dawson Honeycutt (Alamosa, Colo.) was fourth in the second go-round with a 76, and earned 30 points.
In saddle bronc riding, Freshman Judd Pope (Garnett, Kan.) was second in the average with a 70 to earn 115 points. Freshman Treg Huver (Nashville, Mich.) finished fourth in the average with a 60 and earned 65 points. Leavell finished fifth in the steer wrestling average with a 12.7, that included a 4.5 to place second in the second go-round. Leavell earned 70 points.
Leading the women's team was Freshman Kate Brisbane (Kearney, Mo.) who finished first in the goat tying average with a 17.1. Brisbane was fourth in the first go-round with an 8.7, then won the second go-round with an 8.4. Brisbane earned 150 points. Freshman Codie Vaughn (Searcy, Ark.) was sixth in the goat tying average with an 18.4 and earned 40 points. In breakaway roping, Sophomore Addi Williams (Harrisburg, Ark.) was second in the average with a 5.5. Williams was sixth in the first go-round with a 2.9, and tied for second in the second go-round with a 2.6, and earned 105 points. Freshman Ruby Espey (Lone Jack, Mo.) was fifth in the average with a 6.4 and earned 60 points.
Both teams placed second in the team standings. The Viking cowboys earned 665 points, finishing behind Southern Arkansas with 780 points. The Viking cowgirls earned 190 points, finishing behind Tennessee-Martin with 430 points.
