Rodeo Teams Compete at Arkansas-Monticello

Monticello, Ark., (April 21, 2024)- The Missouri Valley College men's and women's rodeo teams competed over the weekend at the Arkansas-Monticello rodeo in Monticello, Ark.  The men's team captured first in the standings with three event winners in the average.  The women's team placed sixth in the standings.

 

In bareback riding, the men's team produced three of the top five finishers in the average.  Leading the team was Sophomore Kooper Heimburg (San Tan Valley, Ariz.) who was first in the average with a 158.  Heimburg won both go-rounds with scores of 80 and 78, and earned a total of 180 points.  Finishing second in the average was Senior Ty Pope (Waverly, Kan.), with a 152.  Pope finished second in both go-rounds with rides of 78 and 74, and earned 150 points.  Senior Colt Eck (Redfield, Kan.) placed fifth in the average with a 129 and earned 75 points.

 

In saddle bronc riding, Senior Tyler Freeman (Cadiz, Ky.) placed first in the average with a 139.  He won the first go-round with a 68, then tied for first in the second go-round with a 71.  He earned 175 points.  Pope was second in the average with a 138.  He was second in the first go-round with a 67, then tied for first in the second go-round with a 71.  He earned 155 points.  Walker McAbee was fourth in the average with a 116, and earned 80 points.

 

Also for the men's team, Freshman Carson Ball (Brumer, Mo.) placed first overall in steer wrestling with a 10.9 in the average.  Ball won the first go-round with a 4.9, and placed second in the second go-round with a 6.0.  He earned 170 points.  Ball then placed fifth in the calf roping average with a 29.3.  He finished second in the second go-round with an 11.7, and earned 70 points.  Also in calf roping, Senior Easton Kirby (Lancaster, Iowa) finished third in the average with a 24.9 and earned 75 points.

 

The women's team was led by Senior Betsy Roemer (Jonesboro, Ark.), who finished third in the goat tying average with a 15.8.  She placed fifth in the first go-round with a 7.9, then placed third in the second go-round with a 7.9.  Roemer earned 100 points.  Also in goat tying, Junior Kenlie Raby (Mt. Vernon, Ark.) placed sixth in the first go-round with an 8.0 and sixth in the second go-round with an 11.4, and earned 15 points.  In breakaway roping, Senior Morgan Osborn (Lancaster, Ky.) placed sixth in the average with a 15.7 and earned 20 points.  In barrel racing, Freshman Kalyani Das (Las Crases, N.M.) finished second in the first go-round with a 13.18 and earned 50 points.

 

The men's team finished first overall with a total of 985 points.  East Mississippi followed in second place with 530 points..  The women's team placed sixth with 115 points.  Tennessee-Martin topped the women's standings with 260 points.

 

Up next, the Viking rodeo teams will close the regular season with the Northwest Mississippi rodeo in Senatobia, Miss, Thursday through Saturday.
