Golf Teams Host MVC Spring Invite

Marshall, Mo., (April 16, 2024)- The Missouri Valley College golf teams hosted the MVC Spring Invite at Indian Foothills Golf Course.  The men's team finished second with four top ten placers , while the women's team produced a pair of top ten individuals.

 

The "A" team was led by Sophomore Nelius De Jager (Upington, South Africa) who placed sixth overall with a three-round score of +8 (224), including a tournament-low -6 (66) in the first round.  He was followed by Sophomore Jules Garret (Lyon, France) who placed ninth with a +10 (226), while Junior Cade Basson (George, South Africa) came in at No. 12 with a +13 (229). Freshman Valentin Bosdari (Mendoza, Argentina) rounded out the team scorers at No. 22 finishing at +21 (237).  Bosdari shot a -5 (67) in the first round.

 

The "B" team was led by Sophomore Joaquin Calderon (Quito, Ecuador) who led all Viking golfers with a +7 (223) to place fifth, eight shots back of first place.  Freshman Cadyn Sava (Arlington, Wash.) placed No. 12 with a +13 (229), Freshman Sebastian Liffers (Heitersheim, Germany) placed at No. 14 with a score of +15 (231), and rounding out the team scorers was Freshman Shawn Glover (Syracuse, Utah) placed No. 20 with a +17 (235).  Senior Sebasthian Contreras (Bogota, Colombia) finished with a +23 (239) to place at No. 26.

 

The "C" team was led by Junior Isaac Taleb (Pereira, Colombia) who placed No. 19 overall with a score of +17 (233).  Junior Jesus Perez (Sevilla, Spain) added a +19 (235) to place at No. 20, Freshman Benjamin Searle (Kent, England) came in at No. 22 with a +21 (237) and Junior Leonardo Borzaga (Trento, Italy) added a +34 (240) to place at No. 32 to round out the team scorers. Freshman Julian Ayape (Bayonne, France) totaled a +40 (256) to place at No. 36.  Also playing as individuals, Freshman Thomas Skevington (Farnham, United Kingdom) placed sixth overall with a score of +8 (224) and Freshman Jackson Tobias (Warrenton, Mo.) placed at No. 38 with a score of +112 (328).

 

The men's "A" team placed second overall with a three-round total of +40 (904).  William Woods (Mo.) won the tournament with a +7 (871).  The "B" team placed third with a +46 (910) and the "C" team placed sixth with a +78 (942).

 

Two members of the women's team played as individuals.  Freshman Kendra Warden (Paris, Canada) placed fourth with a three-round score of +47 (263) and Sophomore Madison Mills (Willard, Mo.) followed in tenth with a score of +81 (297).  The women's tournament was won by Central Methodist (Mo.) with a final score of +218.

 

Up next, the women's golf team competes at the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championship, Monday and Tuesday, and the men's team competes at the Heart Championship, April 29-30.  Both tournaments take place at The Preserve on Rathburn Lake in Moravia, Iowa.
