Golf Teams Host Big Muddy Shootout
Marshall, Mo., (Sept. 26, 2023)- The Missouri Valley College men's and women's golf teams hosted the Big Muddy Shootout at Indian Foothills Golf Course, Monday and Tuesday. The Viking men's golf team produced a team and individual championship.
Leading the men's "A" team was individual champion Sophomore Mateo Quiroga (Canalones, Spain), who finished with a two-round total of -12 (132), winning by eight strokes. He finished both rounds at -6 (66). He was followed by Sophomore Nelius de Jager (Upington, South Africa), who placed third with a -3 (141), which included a -3 (69) in the second round. Senior Andres Rueda de Leon (Tabasco, Mexico) came in at seventh with a +1 (145). He shot a -4 (68) in the second round. The team scorers were capped by Freshman Cadyn Sava (Arlington, Wash. with a +4 (148) to place ninth, while Freshman Shawn Glover (Syracuse, Utah) came in at No. 11 with a +6 (150).
The "B" team was led by Freshman Sebastian Liffers (Heitersheim, Germany) who came in at +1 (145) at seventh with a +1 (145). Liffers had a -3 (69) in the second round. Sophomore Jules Garrett (Lyon, France) and Junior Jesus Perez (Sevilla, Spain) both shot a +2 (146) to place at No. 13. Sophomore Joaquin Calderon (Quito, Ecuador) placed at No. 20 with a +6 (150) to finish out the team scorers. Sophomore Dominic Hoskin (Witham, England) was No. 23 with a +8 (152).
The "C" team was led by Freshman Valentin Bosdari (Mendoza, Argentina) with a +7 (151) to place at No. 21. Junior Isaac Taleb (Pereira, Colombia) shot a +11 (155) to place No. 29, Sophomore Patrick Hauschildt (Hamburg, Germany) was No. 47 with a +16 (160) and Freshman Thomas Skevington (Lyon, France) was No. 49 with a +18 (162).
The "D" team was led by Freshman Benjamin Searle (Kent, England) at No. 34 with a +12 (156), followed by Junior Leonardo Borzaga (Trento, Italy) at No. 38 with a +13 (157), Sophomore Tomas Halldorsson (Reykjvik, Iceland) at No. 44 with a +15 (159), Senior Sebasthian Contreras (Bogota, Colombia) at No. 55 with a +20 (164) and Senior Aman Egge (Martelle, Iowa) with a +24 (168) to place No. 62.
Freshman Julian Ayape (Bayonne, France) and Freshman Shane McClanahan (Humble, Texas) led the "E" by both finishing at No. 49 with a +18 (162). They were followed by Freshman Hadley Johsnon (Thermopolis, Wyo.) at No. 73 with a +33 (177) and Freshman Robert Carter (Gelena, Mo.) at No. 77 with a +59 (203).
Three played as individuals. Freshman Evan Schoenberger (Wentzville, Mo.) placed at No. 75 with a +41 (185), Freshman Isaac Villarreal (Santa Rosa, Texas) placed at No. 78 with a +62 (206) and Freshman Jackson Tobias (Warrenton, Mo.) placed at No. 79 with a +117 (227).
The Missouri Valley "A" team won the championship with a -13 (563), topping second place No. 25 Columbia (Mo.) by eight strokes. The ""B" team was fourth with a +9 (585), "C" team was seventh with a +49 (625), the "D" team was ninth with a +66 (632) and the "E" team waas No. 15 with a +117 (693).
The Viking women's golf team was led by Freshman Kendra Warden (Paris, Canada) who placed at No. 11 with a two round score of +31 (175). She was followed by Sophomore Madison Mills (Willard, Mo.) at No. 17 with a +43 (187), Sophomore Jalynn Allen (Lebanon, Mo.) at No. 20 with a +47 (191) and Senior Isabelle Pearson (North Little Rock, Ark.) at No. 32 with a +62 (206).
Columbia won the women's tournament with a +80 (656). Missouri Valley placed at sixth with a +183 (759).
Up next, the Viking golf teams will compete at the Columbia Cougar Classic in Columbia, Mo., Oct. 2-3.
