Thomas (Tom) D.W. Fauquier was a three-year starter for the Viking men’s basketball team, collecting a number of individual honors.  Fauquier came to Missouri Valley prior to the 1972-73 season, after spending the previous season at NCAA Division I Maryland University.  As a Viking, Fauquier earned three varsity letters and served as team captain and co-captain each season.  Following the 1974-75 season, he was named the program’s Most Valuable Player, was a second team all-conference selection in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, and was an NAIA all-district 16 honorable mention selection.  Fauquier was also an Outstanding College Athletes of America selection in 1975.

Outside of basketball, Fauquier was a member of the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity, where he was elected vice-president as a junior, and president as a senior.  He was also a member of the Intra-Fraternity Council, and he was selected as the Outstanding Greek Man by the Greek organizations on campus his junior year.  He was also active in fraternity sponsored charity events, and intramural sports.

Fauquier graduated in 1975 cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in accounting.  After graduating, he returned to Maryland and started his career in commercial real estate.  He is now a board member and investor in the eighth largest health club holding company in the United States, and the largest owner-operator of health clubs in Washington D.C., Atlanta, and Virginia Beach, Va.  The affiliated companies under his ownership employ in excess of 5,000 individuals.   In 2017, properties under his ownership and management were selected by the Urban Land Institute of Washington DC for Excellence in Adaptive Reuse.  Fauquier was chosen as an MVC Outstanding Alumni in 2016 and selected to the 25 CEO’s You Need to Know list in the state of Maryland in 2010.

Fauquier credits a number of people for having a great influence on him during his time at Missouri Valley.  Educators include George Brock, Everett Rehkop, Scotty Campbell, Gale Rand, Jack Sutton, Virgil Rabe and Larry Fleming.  Coaches include Ken Gibler, Grover Redford, Max Sinn, Quentin King, along with Volney Ashford, Terrance Ryan and Steve Wood.  He also credits a number of his teammates and assistant coaches for how supportive they were of not only himself, but of the entire student body.
