Bio
Robert Bruce McAnelly came to Missouri Valley College in 1975 and made an impact on the Missouri Valley College football program. Bruce was a four-year member of the Viking football team, earning all-conference and all-district honors all four years at Missouri Valley. Bruce earned second team all-conference honors his freshman, sophomore and senior seasons and was a second team all-district selection as a freshman and sophomore.
Bruce was a first team all-conference and all-district selection his junior year, and was a first team all-district selection his senior season, all at the nose tackle position. Bruce helped the Vikings win four-straight conference championships during his playing career from 1975-1978. Outside of football, Bruce was a member of the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity and was a volunteer for Special Olympics athletes.
Bruce graduated with a bachelor of science degree in education. He spent 32 years working for Quinn Concrete, retiring this past July. He currently lives on his farm in Glasgow, Mo. with his wife Sallee McAnelly whom he married while attending Missouri Valley. The two have three sons, Britt, Joe and Ben, and three grandchildren, Justin, Madison and Jameson.
Bruce credits a number of people for influencing him during his time at Missouri Valley. He credits Mr. Gibler, Mr. Redford, Mr. King, Mr. Kepner and Mr. Tompson for helping him through his college years. Bruce says that although most of these men have passed on, their influence on him will long endure and hopefully will be passed on to future generations. Bruce also credits his friend Bruce Beyer ’77 for having a great impact on his life.
