Richard graduated from Missouri Valley College in 1960, majoring in Biological Science, Health and Physical Education.

Richard participated for the Vikings in football and track, and was a member of the V-Club.  On the football field Richard earned All-Conference honors at defensive back.

Richard has been employed by the Kansas City (MO) School District for the past 35 years, teaching and coaching at Northeast High School.  Richard coached football, basketball, and track and has guided over 100 students to enroll at Missouri Valley College and participate in athletics over the years.

Prior to his high school coaching career Richard served as an assistant coach to Volney Ashford, specializing in the defensive backfield.  Two of Richard’s protégés, Steve Lucito and Lou Serrone also returned to Valley as coaches after their graduation from Missouri Valley College.
