Bio
Paul Achtyl was a two-sport athlete at Missouri Valley College, making his mark on the football and track and field programs. In football Paul was a three-year starter for the Vikings at defensive tackle.
He was a member of the 1974 NAIA National Runner-Up football team and received a number of individual awards. Paul was selected to the all-conference team in 1973-1974, he was a first team all-district selection in 1972-1973 and was a second team all-American in 1973. Following his playing career at Missouri Valley, Paul was drafted by the Calgary Stampede of the Canadian Football League. In track and field he was a shot put and discus thrower. Paul was also an active member of V-Club.
Paul graduated with a bachelor of science in education, focusing on physical education. He was a high school football coach, coaching the defensive line at Maryvale High School in Cheektoaga, N.Y. and also coaching at Wilson (N.Y.) High School. Paul also had a career in law enforcement, retiring from the Niagara County Sheriff’s Department in New York after a 23-year career as a Sheriff’s Deputy.
Paul married his wife, Amy Jo C. Achtyl, in 1978 and they have three grown sons, Kyle, Keith and Kevin. Paul is proud grandparent to three grandchildren, Ava, Jenna and Kolden.
Paul says Ken Gibler and Grover C. Redford were two people that greatly influenced him while at Missouri Valley College. Paul credits Coach Gibler with giving him direction and a great work ethic.
