Bio

Paul “Chip” Newell came to Missouri Valley College in the fall of 1974 and made his mark on the Viking football team. Paul played for three years, from 1974-1976, and was a two-way player for the team, playing on both the offensive and defensive lines. Paul earned a number of individual honors during his playing career.

He was named to the all-conference football team in both 1975 and 1976, was an NAIA All-American honorable mention selection in 1975 at defensive tackle and a second team NAIA All-American selection at center. In addition to his play on the football field, Paul was also an active member in V-Club.

Paul graduated with a bachelor of science degree in physical education, but spent most of his professional career in the finance world. Paul spent 26 years in financial services at the Kansas City Board of Trade, assembling and managing the largest retail commodities trading group. Since 2006 Paul has been working with his brothers, Charlie and Henry, in manufacturing. In his free time, Paul is an avid hunter and fisherman. In 1997 Paul was named to the Sporting Clays of America all-American team.

Paul credits his football coach, Ken Gibler, as someone who influenced him while at Missouri Valley. He says that Coach Gibler was a great coach, teacher, salesman and most of all, a leader. Paul says that Coach Gibler was always inspiring everyone, and always did the right thing.
