Bio
James (Jim) R. Hargrave succeeded both on and off the football field during his time at Missouri Valley. He was a member of two MCAU championship teams, capturing championships in the 1960 and 1961 seasons. As a football letter winner, Hargrave helped Viking football finish with a combined record of 27-8-2 in his four years with the program. Off the field, Hargrave was the Senior Class President, served as homecoming chairman in 1963, was the president of Young Hall for two years, was involved in intramural sports, was a member of the honorary social studies fraternity and graduated suma cum laude in 1964.
After graduating from Missouri Valley, Hargrave stayed in the Marshall, Mo., community, teaching and coaching the boy's wrestling team at Marshall High School. Hargrave's coaching career includes a pair of state championships, capturing the titles in back-to-back years (1978-1979), a state runner-up finish in 1980 and a third place finish in 1974. His teams also captured five district championships and two regional championships, while Hargrave also earned two Missouri State Wrestling Coaches' Association Coach of the Year awards. He was inducted into the Missouri Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1988 and the Marshall High School Hall of Fame in 2014.
Hargrave credits Missouri Valley College Professors Rodney Wells, Navin Matthews, Grover Redford and Young Hall House Mother Mrs. Napton as the people who greatly influenced him during his time on campus.
