Bio

Jim graduated from Missouri Valley College in 1955, and played football for the Vikings under Coach Ashford from 1951 to 1955.  Jim credits much of his success to Coach Volney Ashford calling him, “One of the greatest motivators ever.”

Jim served with the United States Marine Corps from 1955 to 1957 attaining the rank of Captain.  Jim earned his Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Illinois – Champaign in 1960.

Jim went on to coach football at Kickapoo High School in Springfield, MO where he retired after 20 years with a record of 135-66.  Prior to Kickapoo Jim was both the head football and head basketball coach at Cullom (IL) High School from 1955 to 1960, and before Cullom Jim worked as an assistant football coach and head golf coach at Hillcrest High School in Springfield.

In 1992 Jim was one of the first coaches selected to the Missouri High School Football Coaches Hall of Fame in Jefferson City.
