Bio
Cody Martin is the first member of the Missouri Valley College rodeo program to be inducted into the Missouri Valley College Athletic Hall of Fame. Martin made an impact on rodeo at Missouri Valley as he became the first individual National champion in program history and found success as a professional rodeo cowboy.
Martin’s individual National title came in 2002, when he won the saddle bronc competition at the College National Finals Rodeo. The national championship capped off a successful year for Martin as he went into the CNFR as the Ozark Region all-around champion.
Martin also found success as a professional rodeo cowboy during and after his time at Missouri Valley. In 2000, Martin was named the Professional Rodeo Cowboy’s Association Saddle Bronc Riding Rookie of the Year. Later in his career, he finished as a four-time saddle bronc riding champion in the Mountain States Circuit. Martin also qualified for the Wrangler National Finals, in 2003 and 2006, which showcases the top rodeo cowboys in the world.
Martin went on to receive a degree in radiography from Cox College, and after finishing his professional rodeo career, he went on to become a radiologic technologist at Mosiac Life Care in St. Joseph, Mo. Martin also became a father, as he and his wife, Kelly, welcomed in their first child in Feb. of 2017.
Martin credits his Missouri Valley rodeo coach, Otey McCloy, as the person who greatly influenced him during his time in college. Martin says that McCloy was a great motivator, friend and an overall genuine person that impacted him in many ways.
