Bio

Bonnie (Johnson) Burgess made her impact at Missouri Valley College on the basketball court, as one of the most dominating players in program-history in women’s basketball.  After winning a National championship in junior college, Johnson came to Missouri Valley and made an immediate impact for the program.  Her first season with the team, Johnson was named the 2006-07 Newcomer of the Year and first team all-conference selection in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.  She finished that season scoring 480 total points and averaged 16 points and 5.7 rebounds per game.  The following season saw Bonnie reach new heights, scoring 538 total points, averaging 19.2 points per game, shooting nearly 53-percent from the floor, averaging 9.3 rebounds per game, and finishing with 12 double-doubles on the season.  She was a repeat first team all-conference selection and was named an NAIA All-American.  Bonnie finished her career with 1,018 total points, third-most in program-history, and is one of only four players to have reached the 1,000 point total.  She still holds program records for most field goals made in a single game, reaching the mark twice with 14 made shots in 2007 against Graceland (Iowa) and 2008 against Central Methodist (Mo.).  She also holds the single-game record for rebounds with 21 in 2008 against Central Methodist.

Bonnie is now working in the financial sector, making a career in the investment banking division at UMB Bank in Kansas City.  She continues to be involved in basketball, and is coaching her son’s AAU boys basketball team Agape Hoops Organization in Independence.  She credits her coach at Missouri Valley, Keith Lindahl, as the person who greatly influenced her during her college career, saying he was a great mentor, leader, coach, second dad, teacher and friend.
