Bio

The 1974 football team was coached by the legendary Kenneth Gibler and compiled an impressive 10-1-1 record, with the only loss at the hands of Texas Lutheran College in the National Championship game. During this time only 4 teams were selected to play in the NAIA Division II playoffs. The team was Heart of America Conference Champions, and was ranked as high as #2 nationally during the season. Notable win included a 27-21 victory over University of Missouri – Rolla, 41-7 over Washburn University, a 14-7 win over arch rival William Jewell, and a thrilling 37-29 come-from –behind victory over Hanover, Indiana in the NAIA National playoffs. The team included 14 All-Conference performers, and 8 All-District performers, while Coach Ken Gibler garnered District Coach of the Year honors. The defensive unit was nationally ranked the entire season. There were many stand-out performers on the squad such as running back Greg Farris, safety/punter Greg Tinnen, linebacker Dennis “Ace” Reilly, and nose tackle Ronnie Brooks. This was truly an outstanding team that finished higher in the NAIA rankings than any team since the 1960’s.
