Shotgun Sports Produces Two-Time National Champion, Second Place Team Finish at ACUI

San Antonio, Texas, (March 22, 2025)- The Missouri Valley College shotgun sports team competed at the ACUI National Championship in San Antonio, Texas throughout the week.  The Vikings finished second in the Division II High Overall standings, and produced an individual National champion in two events.

 

Leading the team was Freshman Olivia Simmons (Flower Mound, Texas) who won a National title in both skeet and double skeet.  Simmons won the National title in skeet with a final score of 94, and produced an 88 in double skeet to earn the National title.  Simmons becomes the first individual in program-history to earn National titles at the ACUI National Championship.

 

As a team, the Vikings finished third in trap, with a score of 491, trailing William Penn (Iowa), with 493, and to Midland (Neb.) after a shoot-off.  Senior Charlie Maddox (Forest, Va.) and Freshman Lodden Axtell (Muscatine, Iowa) both led in the event with a 99 each.  Senior Blayne Kolb (Maysville, Mo.) and Senior Boe Caplan (Buellton, Calif.) added a 98, and Sophomore Jack Duffin (Novato, Calif.) finished with a 97.

 

In the High Overall standings, Missouri Valley finished with scores of 462 in skeet, 491 in American trap and 422 in sporting clays for a total of 1,375 to place second in the standings.  The Vikings only trailed Georgia Southern, which totaled at 1,425.
