
Track and Field Teams Compete at the Heart Indoor Championships
Maryville, Mo., (Feb. 15, 2025)- The Missouri Valley College track and field teams competed at the 2025 Heart Indoor Championships in Maryville, Mo., Friday and Saturday. The Vikings were led by Freshman Dante Gordon who was a conference champion in the 400 meter dash with a time of 48.08, meeting the "B" National qualifying standard and breaking the program's record in the event. Freshman Montique Griffiths also broke the program's record in the 600 meter with a time of 1:23.11. Four student-athletes and the 4x400 relay team were recognized in the All-Conference Team.
Men's Results:
Freshman Dante Gordon (Kingston, Jamaica): won the 400 meter dash with a time of 48.08, met the "B" national qualifying standard into the 2025 NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championship, and he also broke the program's record in the event, last set by Terrance Morris in 1993. Gordon also qualified for the 60 meter hurdles finals with a time of 8.53 in the prelims. He then finished 6th in the event finals with a time of 8.57.
Freshman Stephen Caviness (Marshall, Mo.): placed fourth in the high jump with a height of 1.93 meters. He also finished 8th in the long jump with a distance of 6.52 meters.
Freshman Marcus Evans (Jonesboro, Ark.): placed 6th in the triple jump with a distance of 13.35 meters.
Sophomore Isaiah Pratt (Augusta, Ga.): qualified for the 60 meter dash finals with a time of 6.93 in the prelims. He then placed 6th in the event finals with a time of 6.96.
Freshman Montique Griffiths: placed 8th in the 600 meter with a time of 1:23.11. Griffiths broke the program's record in the event, last set by Jason Matthews in 2017. He also finished with a time of 8.56 in the 60 meter hurdles prelims, but did not qualify for the event finals.
Freshman Joseph James (Excelsior Springs, Mo.): finished with a time of 9.34 in the 60 meter hurdles prelims, but did not qualify for the event finals.
Freshman Micah Mumford: finished with a time of 8.75 in the 60 meter hurdles prelims, but did not qualify for the event finals.
4x400 meter relay team 'A' (Griffiths, Mumford, Sophomore Corey Liggins (Augusta, Ga.), Gordon) placed sixth with a time of 3:22.87.
Women's Results:
Junior Emily Lechuga (LaPorte, Texas): placed 9th in the 600 meter with a time of 1:42.74.
Senior Paula Romero Rodriguez (Madrid, Spain): placed 10th in the weight throw with a distance of 14.17 meters. She also finished No. 17 in the shot put with a distance of 10.90 meters.
Junior Emily Dolberry (Arlington, Texas): placed 12th in the high jump with a height of 1.45 meters.
Freshman Dimitria Sweet: placed 13th in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.06. She also finished with a time of 8.16 in the 60 meter dash prelims, but did not qualify for the event finals.
Junior Federica Gammarota (Foggia, Italy): placed 16th in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:04.71. She also finished with a time of 10.46 in the 60 meter hurdles prelims, but did not qualify for the event finals.
Senior Kylie Linson (Troy, Mo.): placed 19th in the weight throw with a distance of 12.96 meters.
Sophomore Isabella Kulenkamp (Warrensburg, Mo.): placed 20th in the weight throw with a distance of 12.09 meters.
4x400 meter relay team 'A' (Gammarota, Senior Samantha Bitz (Marion, Ill.), Sweet, Lechuga) placed seventh with a time of 4:16.58.
Women Distance Medley Relay team (Freshman Faraja Nyasa (Kigoma, Tanzania), Freshman Shaliah McKoy (Kingston, Jamaica), Freshman Bryanna Wentland (Higginsville, Mo.), Senior Camille Humphrey (St. Peters, Mo.)) placed 11th with a time of 15:40.35.
The men's team placed No. 9 in the standings with 29 points, and the women's team finished No. 11 overall with two points. The men's track and field team have four student-athletes and 4x400 meter relay team in the All-Conference team:
