
Women's Wrestling Moves to No. 8, Nine Nationally Ranked Individuals
Marshall, Mo., (Feb. 6, 2025)- The Missouri Valley College women's wrestling team made a jump up the rankings in the latest NAIA Women's Wrestling Coaches' Top 20 Poll, released Thursday. Nine individuals are ranked in the latest coaches' poll.
The Vikings moved up two spots to the No. 8 position in this edition of the coaches' poll. During the latest ratings period, the team competed at the York (Neb.) Open, the Indiana Tech Open and the Grand View (Iowa) Open. The team also defeated then-No. 13 Baker (Kan.), 29-14, in a dual. Wednesday's 33-14 dual win over then-No. 18 Central Methodist did not factor into the current coaches' poll.
Missouri Valley is one of five teams from the Heart of America Athletic Conference ranked in the coaches' poll. Grand View (Iowa) is No. 2, William Penn (Iowa) moved up to No. 3, Baker (Kan.) fell to No. 14, and associate member Dickinson State (N.D.) entered the poll at No. 19.
Nine Vikings are ranked in their respective weight classes, led by Junior Xochitl Mota-Pettis (Humble, Texas), who is ranked No. 3 at 131 pounds. The other ranked individuals include:
No. 8 Senior Hailey Holland (San Bernardino, Calif.) at 110 pounds.
No. 17 Freshman Sara Pineda (Perris, Calif.) at 110 pounds.
No. 18 Freshman Ashtyn Sagely (Broken Arrow, Okla.) at 117 pounds.
No. 9 Senior Ashley Whetzal (Virginia Beach, Va.) at 131 pounds.
No. 9 Sophomore Serenity De La Garza (McAllen, Texas) at 138 pounds.
No. 11 Freshman Sevreign Aumua (Grain Valley, Mo.) at 145 pounds.
No. 5 Senior Kelani Corbett (Wahiawa, Hawaii) at 180 pounds.
No. 8 Freshman Aniya Herbin (Tampa, Fla.) at 207 pounds.
Up next for the Viking women's wrestling team is the Midland (Neb.) Warrior Open in Fremont, Neb., Saturday. The team will host a Senior Night dual against William Woods (Mo.), Feb. 11 at 7 p.m.
