
Track and Field Teams Compete at Washburn Invite
Topeka, Kan., (Feb. 1, 2025)- The Missouri Valley College track and field teams continued their indoor season competing at the Washburn Invite in Topeka, Mo., Friday and Saturday. The Vikings competed against programs from multiple collegiate divisions at the event. The men's team was led by Freshman Stephen Caviness who placed second in the high jump with a height of 1.97 meters and Freshman Dante Gordon who finished fifth in the 600 yard run with a time of 1:12.95, setting a new program-record in the event.
Men's Results:
Freshman Stephen Caviness (Marshall, Mo.): placed second in the high jump with a height of 1.97 meters.
Freshman Dante Gordon (Kingston, Jamaica): placed fifth in the 600 yard run with a time of 1:12.95. Gordon broke the program's record in the event, last set by Dorothy Adams in 2017. He also finished in a time of 8.52 in the 60 meter hurdles prelims, but did not qualify for the finals.
Freshman Marcus Evans (Jonesboro, Ark.): placed 23rd in the triple jump with a distance of 13.48 meters.
Sophomore Terrill Davis: placed 35th in the triple jump with a distance of 12.53 meters.
Freshman Elnailo Mushatt (Chicago, Ill.): finished in a time of 8.98 in the 60 meter hurdles prelims, but did not qualify for the finals.
4x400 meter relay team 'A' (Freshman Montique Griffiths, Freshman Micah Mumford, Sophomore Corey Liggins (Augusta, Ga.), D. Gordon) placed No. 21 with a time of 3:29.11.
Women's Results:
Senior Paula Romero Rodriguez (Madrid, Spain): placed No. 21 in the weight throw with a distance of 14.22 meters. She also finished 36th in the shot put with a distance of 10.89 meters.
Junior Emily Lechuga (LaPorte, Texas): placed 36th in the 600 yard run with a time of 1:36.66.
Senior Kylie Linson (Troy, Mo.): placed 37th in the shot put with a distance of 10.85 meters. She also finished No. 39 in the weight throw with a distance of 11.32 meters.
Freshman Dimitria Sweet: finished in a time of 8.44 in the 60 meter dash prelims, but did not qualify for the finals.
Up next, the Viking track and field teams will compete at the Bearcat Invite in Maryville, Mo., on Feb. 7.
