Record-Breaking Week Leads to Heart Women's Basketball Award
Marshall, Mo., (Jan. 13, 2025)- A Missouri Valley College women's basketball student-athlete has earned a weekly award from the Heart of America Athletic Conference for her record-breaking play in two games last week.
Senior Gia Moore (Independence, Mo.) has been named the Heart Women's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week, presented by WinWon after guiding the team to a pair of victories. Moore scored 17 points, and added six rebounds and six assists in an 80-55 win over Park (Mo.). Saturday, Moore led with 18 points in an 85-60 win against Graceland (Iowa). With 8:24 to play in the third quarter against GU, a layup by Moore moved her past Michele (Renschin) Reinke and into first place in the program's all-time scoring list. Moore currently sits at 1,501 career points.
This is the sixth weekly Heart award for Moore at Missouri Valley, and the first this season. Moore joins Junior Sara Ortiz (La Roda, Spain) as weekly award winners this season. Ortiz won the Heart's defensive award back on Dec. 2.
Missouri Valley is 13-3 overall and 9-3 in the Heart following the two wins last week. Next up for the team is a home game against Baker (Kan.), Wednesday at 5:30 p.m., inside the Burns Athletic Complex. The Vikings topped the Wildcats on the road, back on Nov. 13, 73-56.
