Men's Soccer Ends Season in Postseason Coaches' Poll Top 10
Marshall, Mo., (Dec. 18, 2024)- The Missouri Valley College men's soccer team ends its season ranked in the top ten of the postseason 2024 NAIA Men's Soccer Coaches' Top 25 Poll, released Wednesday.
Missouri Valley sits at No. 9 in the postseason coaches' poll, after advancing to the third round of the 2024 NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship. The Vikings defeated Louisiana Christian in the tournament's second round, 2-0, but fell to No. 8 MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.), 2-1 in the third round.
Four other teams from the Heart are ranked in the postseason coaches' poll. National runner-up William Penn (Iowa) is No. 2, MidAmerica Nazarene is No. 8, Baker (Kan.) entered the poll at No. 15 and Clarke (Iowa) came into the poll at No. 23. Missouri Valley finished with a 6-3 record against Nationally ranked teams. The wins came over No. 2 William Penn, 3-1, No. 7 Bellevue (Neb.), 1-0, No. 8 MidAmerica Nazarene, 2-1, No. 15 Baker, 2-1 and 3-0, and No. 23 Clarke, 8-0. The losses came to No. 2 William Penn, 1-0, No. 5 Oklahoma Wesleyan, 2-1, and No. 8 MNU, 2-1.
Missouri Valley extends its streak of consecutive polls ranked to 50-straight, dating back to Nov. 6, 2019. This is the third-longest active streak in the NAIA.
The men's soccer team finished with an overall record of 16-3-3, including an undefeated record in the Heart, at 9-0-2. The team won a third-straight Heart regular season title, and advanced to the National tournament site for the eleventh time since 2013.
