
Men's Soccer Set To Host National Tournament Games
Marshall, Mo., (Nov. 16, 2024)- The Missouri Valley College men's soccer team will be the host site for a pair of games in the 2024 NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship, next week.
Missouri Valley has been selected as a host for the opening weekend of the tournament as the No. 4 overall seed, and earned a bye into the second round. The Vikings will play Nov. 23 inside Volney C. Ashford Stadium, and meet the winner of a first round contest between Hastings (Neb.) and Louisiana Christian. The Viking earned an automatic berth into the National tournament after capturing the Heart of America Athletic Conference regular season title with an undefeated, 9-0-2, record.
Hastings earned an automatic berth into the National tournament after winning the GPAC Postseason Tournament championship. The team is 11-7-2 on the season. Louisiana Christian was the Red River Postseason Tournament champion, earning an automatic berth, and sits at 14-4-3 overall. The teams will meet in a first round game, Nov. 21, inside Volney C. Ashford Stadium, and the winner advances to play Missouri Valley, Nov. 23.
Missouri Valley has played Hastings four times in the National tournament, and is 2-2 all-time against the program. Hastings won, 3-0, in the first round of the 2010 tournament, and 3-2, in the second round of the 2013 tournament. The Vikings defeated the Broncos, 4-0, in the second round of the 2020 tournament, and earned a 2-1 win in the first round of the 2021 tournament. Missouri Valley has never played Louisiana Christian in the National tournament.
The Vikings are 15-2-3 overall on the season, and will be making the program's fourteenth National tournament appearance. Missouri Valley is 26-11-1 all-time, with a National title in 2020, and National runner-up finishes in 2017 and 2018. All fourteen appearances have taken place since 2010, and the program is hosting National tournament games for the thirteenth time in program-history, all since 2011.
The winner of the Nov. 23 second round game will advance to the third round, and the National site, which is located at Scheels Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita, Kan. The National site games will begin Dec. 2, with the National championship game Dec. 9. Missouri Valley has advanced to the National site ten times in program-history, all since 2013, and in each of the past seven seasons.
Tickets can be purchased in advance of the game through the valleywillroll.com website. Tickets will be $8 for adults and $5 for children between 5-12 years of age. Children four years of age and younger will be free admission.
