
Men's Soccer Sits Near Top of Latest Coaches' Poll
Marshall, Mo., (Nov. 6, 2024)- The Missouri Valley College men's soccer team continued to move up in the rankings with the latest edition of the 2024 NAIA Men's Soccer Coaches' Top 25 Poll, released Wednesday.
In the final regular season edition of the coaches' poll, Missouri Valley moved up one spot from its previous position, and is now No. 4. The Viking went 2-0-1 during the latest ratings period. The wins came against Baker (Kan.), 2-1, and Benedictine (Kan.), 3-2. The tie came against Graceland (Iowa), 1-1.
Two other teams from the Heart are ranked in this edition of the coaches' poll. William Penn (Iowa) moved up to No. 5, and MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) dropped to No. 24. The Vikings are 4-1 against teams currently ranked. The team has defeated No. 7 Bellevue (Neb.), 1-0, MidAmerica Nazarene, 2-1, William Penn 3-1, and No. 23 Columbia (Mo.), 3-1. The loss came to No. 2 Oklahoma Wesleyan, 2-1.
Missouri Valley extends its streak of consecutive polls ranked to 49-straight, dating back to Nov. 6, 2019. This is the third-longest active streak in the NAIA. The No. 4 ranking is the highest for the program since being ranked at the same position in the Sept. 21, 2022 coaches' poll.
The men's soccer team is 13-1-3 overall and captured a third-straight Heart regular season title with a 9-0-2 record in conference play. The team is the No. 1 seed in the Heart Postseason Tournament, and will host No. 8 seed Park (Mo.) in the quarterfinal round tonight (Wednesday) at 7 p.m., inside Volney C. Ashford Stadium. The Vikings defeated the Pirates, 1-0, back on Oct. 19.
