Shotgun Sports Team Places Fourth at Midwest Conference Championship

Sparta, Ill., (Oct. 16, 2024)- The Missouri Valley College shotgun sports team competed at the ACUI/SCTP Central Midwest Conference Championship in Sparta, Ill., over the weekend.  The team finished fourth overall, placing first in sporting clays.

 

In sporting clays, the team finished with a score of 421/500, to win the event.  Freshman Tucker Meyer (Keytesville, Mo.) led with an 87/100, followed by Sophomore Dakota Zaugg (Santa Maria, Calif.) with an 85/100 and Senior Charlie Maddox (Forest, Va.) with an 84/100 score.  Freshman Jay Allen (Harris, Mo.) added an 83/100, while Senior Blayne Kolb (Maysville, Mo.) finished an 82/100, Freshman Parker Crane (Centralia, Mo.) had an 81/100 and Freshman Makenna Parr (Arlington, Wisc.) totaled an 80/100.

 

In trap, the team placed second with a total of 477/500.  Sophomore Paige Burns (Trail, Minn.) led the team with a 98/100, while Maddox, Duffin, and Zaugg each had scores of 95/100.  Parr rounded out the team contributors with a 94/100.  Allen and Freshman Olivia Simmons (Flower Mound, Texas) both totaled a 92/100, followed by Junior Daniel Younger-Loesing (Nelson, Mo.) with a 91/100.  Senior Boe Caplan (Bulleton, Calif.), Meyer and Freshman Madi Scott (Kaysville, Utah) each had a 90/100.

 

The team also placed second in skeet with a 473/500 total score.  Maddox led with a 99/100, followed by Duffin with a 98/100.  Freshman Makayla Blashill (Croswell, Mich.) totaled a 93/100, while Scott had a 92/100, Kolb added a 91/100 and Caplan had a 90/100 score.

 

In super sporting, the Vikings had a total of 226/250.  Meyer and Maddox both finished with a 46/50 to lead the team, while Duffin and Scott added a 45/50 each.  Younger-Loesing and Kolb both finished with 44/50 scores.

 

A total of eleven teams competed, and the Vikings finished fourth overall, with a total of 1,371.  Mississippi State won the championship with a score of 1,398, followed by Ozarks (Mo.) at 1,387, and Oklahoma State with a 1,379 total.

 

"I am proud of how the team performed this weekend," said Head Coach Reba Kingsley.  "Many individuals posted personal best scores or broke their first 25-straight in a discipline."

 

This concludes the fall competition for the shotgun sports team, and the schedule will resume in February.
