Tavion Campbell Earns Heart Special Teams Award

Marshall, Mo., (Sept. 30, 2024)- Four Missouri Valley College student-athletes have earned weekly awards from the Heart of America Athletic Conference for their performances in competitions last week.

 

Sophomore Running Back Tavion Campbell (St. Louis, Mo.) was named the Heart Football Special Teams Player of the Week, presented by Musco, for his performance against Central Methodist (Mo.), Saturday.  Campbell tied a program and NAIA record with a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to open the second half in a 35-17 win over Central Methodist (Mo.).  Campbell finished the game with 132 kickoff return yards, and gained 109 yards rushing with two touchdowns in the game.

 

This is the first weekly award for Campbell in his career, and he becomes the first Viking to win the special teams weekly football award since Austin Johnson in Sept. of 2019.  The Vikings are 3-1 on the season and 1-0 in the Heart South Division.

 

Senior Defender Jacob Adams (Nottingham, England) is the Heart Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, presented by WinWon, for his efforts in a 3-1 win over Culver-Stockton (Mo.), Saturday.  Adams scored his first goal, and added his first assist of the season in the victory.  He also anchored a Viking defense that allowed only two shots on goal.

 

This is the first weekly award for Adams in his career, and joins teammate Senior Sam Green (London, England) as the weekly award winners so far this season.  The No. 10 Vikings are 7-1-1 overall and 4-0 in the Heart. 

 

Junior Midfielder Judit Ferre (Barcelona, Spain) is the Heart Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, presented by WinWon, for her effort in a 5-0 win over Culver-Stockton (Mo.).  Ferre scored two goals and added one assist in the victory, and now has four goals and a team-high six assists on the season.

 

This is the first weekly Heart award of Ferre's career, and Ferre is the first member of the team to win the weekly award so far this season.  The No. 22 Vikings are 6-3-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the Heart.

 

Junior Hanna Rieker (Munich, Germany) is this Heart Women's Golfer of the Week, after her performance at the CMU Fall Invite.  Rieker finished second overall at the tournament, five shots back of first place, with a two-round score of +16 (158) at Hail Ridge Golf Course in Boonville, Mo.  Rieker also led the women's team to a second place finish at the tournament, the best showing for the program since 2018.

 

This is the first weekly award for Rieker in her career at Missouri Valley, and becomes the first women's golfer to earn the award since Emma Sperry in April of 2017.
