Shotgun Sports Team Competes at Simpson Shootout
Waukee, Iowa, (Sept. 20, 2024)- The Missouri Valley College shotgun sports team continued its season at the Simpson (Iowa) Shootout at the New Pioneer Gun Club in Waukee, Iowa. The team finished sixth overall in the standings, with one individual even winner.
In trap, Sophomore Jack Duffin (Novato, Calif.) finished with a perfect 100/100, and won the shoot-off to capture first overall in the event. He was followed by Sophomore Paige Burns (Trail, Minn.) who totaled a 98/100 and both Sophomore Dakota Zaugg (Santa Maria, Calif.) and Freshman Marissa Schaldecker (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) who totaled 96/100. The team finished with a 485/500 in the event.
In skeet, the team was led by Senior Charlie Maddox (Forest, Va.) who finished with a 98/100, followed by Duffin with a 96/100. Freshman Olivia Simmons (Flower Mound, Texas) had a 94/100 and both Zaugg and Senior Blayne Kolb (Maysville, Mo.) totaled 92/100 each. The team finished with a total score of 472/500.
In sporting clays, Duffin led with an 85/100, followed by Maddox who had a 78/100. Zaugg totaled a 72/100, while Freshman Makayla Blashill (Croswell, Mich.) had a 68/100. Both Schaldecker and Kolb had scores of 64/100 apiece. The team finished with a total of 367/500.
In super sporting, the team was led by Duffin's score of 41/50, while Zaugg totaled 38/50. Simmons followed at 36/50 and Junior Ely Allen (Carrollton, Mo.), Freshman Madi Scott (Kaysville, Utah), Freshman Lodden Axtell (Muscatine, Iowa) and Blashill each totaled 35/50.
Missouri Valley finished sixth in the team standings with a total score of 1,509. William Penn (Iowa) won the competition with a total of 1,660.
"It was excellent to have Jack shoot the 100/100 in trap and win the shoot-off," said Head Coach Reba Kingsley. "There was a high level of competition present, which displayed the level we need to rise to. There is great potential on the team. We will continue to put in the work to bring it to the surface."
Up next, the shotgun sports team travels to Lincoln, Neb., for the Midland (Neb.) Warrior Open, Saturday and Sunday.
