eSports FAQ

  1. What is eSports?
    eSports, also known as Electronic Sports, E-Gaming, or competitive video gaming, is organized, multi-player video gaming, often played at the collegiate or professional level.

  1. How big is eSports?
    The global eSports market generated 696 million dollars in revenue with a global fan base of 385 million people.

  1. How big is collegiate eSports?

Collegiate eSports is one of the fastest-growing varsity programs. Since its inception in 2016, the National Association of Collegiate eSports has grown from seven schools to over 50, with more being added every year.

4. What games will be played by our eSports teams?

Our major focus will be on League of Legends, but we are also building Overwatch and Counterstrike: Global Offensive teams.

5. Are scholarships available?

Collegiate eSports scholarships are currently being offered to all eSports players that qualify for admission to Missouri Valley College. Contact the eSports coach for details.

6. Where will we play?

A brand new facility will be constructed for the eSports team. It will include dedicated gaming computers, a meeting space, televisions, and increased bandwith for online gaming.

7. Will there be travel games?

The majority of our games will be played in our game hub, but some tournaments will be travel events.

8. How good do I have to be to get on a team?

We are currently looking at all applicants, but preferred candidates will have at least a

Silver ranking at League of Legends or a comparable rank in Overwatch or CS:GO. Ideal candidates will have previous team experience. Interested students are encouraged to establish a rank in League of Legends and contact the eSports Coach for an online scouting session.

9. Are scholarships available for current students?

Scholarships are only being offered to first year students. We are looking at opportunities for current students to become involved in the program.
